RISING 8TH GRADE SUMMER READING AND MATH ASSIGNMENTS
This summer, we want you to read- read whatever you want! Enjoy a book for the story or
for information. When you finish, pick a book and complete a Movie Poster advertising
your book. Use your creativity but please follow the directions below for size, required
components, due date, and grading. We have had enough digital so get creative and make a
poster!
Project Description: For this project you will be required to create a movie poster based on the book you
have read. Imagine your book will be made into a movie and you are in charge of creating the advertising!
You will be graded on your creativity, attention to detail, as well as the information that you provide. The
poster will be displayed at school for our curriculum night. It should look like a movie poster that you see in
the theatres—informative, eye-catching and interesting to the viewer. (see examples below)
Your poster must be on poster paper or poster board, no larger than 22”X28.” Use different
kinds of art materials to create your poster. Be creative and colorful!
The title of your novel must be in large writing and stand out on the poster.
Your name should be on the poster and listed as the “Producer.”
The author’s name should appear as the “Director.”
There should be illustrations or a collage that draws the eye’s attention. These should convey
the setting or significant scene in the novel/movie.
Be sure to list the major characters in your novel as the “stars” and they should be named. You
can print out pictures of your favorite movie stars to be cast as these characters and place them
on the poster.
