MEET RISEThe ULTIMATE EXTREME SKY EXPERIENCE in hot air ballooning.

Besides being miles high in the air, a typical hot air balloon travels very slowly (glides with the wind) at about 5-7 miles per hour. RISE has given this traditional take of the hot air balloon experience a very thrilling twist.

inolves being in a 4 passenger hot air balloon

(one seat for the pilot). Each seat is styled

similar to an inverted rollercoaster seat, with

the feet left in the open to dangle freely and

a heavy-duty harness used over the shoulders

to secure the passenger. The experience

begins with each passenger facing inward,

then when the pilot reaches a certain altitude,

the passengers can decide to swivel their

chair to the outside of the cabin and get an

out of this world view. This balloon is called

360 View©

Our other option is called Down Below ©, the

8 passenger, more traditional basket style hot

air balloon. But it isn’t any typical balloon

basket, this basket has a sturdy, plexiglass

floor where you can see a vast view of the

world beneath your feet. We reccommend this

balloon for the adventurous, but maybe not

quite so extreme.

Dear Mary Justice,

Since it started in 2009, Fairy DogParents has provided aid for nearly 400 dogs in Massachusetts: $150,000

worth of dog food and medical care.

"It's to prevent dogs from being surrendered to shelters or euthanized when their owners cannot afford care,"

said Marlo Manning, who founded Fairy DogParents. "Financial hardship is a very common reason why people

surrender their animals to a shelter. And once they do that, it's not a choice that you can undo."

Between 2 million and 2.5 million dogs enter U.S. shelters each year, and between 1 million and 2 million of

those are euthanized, according to estimates generated from the American Society for the Prevention of

Cruelty to Animals.

"I've never had to choose between caring for my dogs or caring for myself," said Manning, 39. "Most of the

people we help, they're doing their best to get back on track. And then a crisis happens with their dog. And

it's just one more thing that they can't afford.

"It's emotionally taxing on them because they think, 'If I can't even take care of this dog, what right do I have to

have it?' So we want to take that burden away and say: 'You do have a right to have it. Get through this, and we'll

help you.' And through that, we give them a little ray of hope."

Manning knows how much an ailing dog can cost. She and her husband adopted their first dog, Ladybug, from

a shelter in 2005, when Ladybug was 10 years old. In the four years she spent with the couple, the pooch

developed a host of health issues, including vertigo, dementia and ultimately cancer.

Over time, the costs for Ladybug's medicine, vet bills and special food averaged about $300 to $400 a month,

Manning said."Having gone through a job loss myself, I thought: 'I'm really glad that we had Ladybug when we

did, because we were able to afford it. If it had happened at a different point in time, I don't know what we

would've done. We couldn't have given up on her. She'd never give up on us."
