Avenged Sevenfold or A7X is an American heavy metal band. A7X was formed in 1999 in Huntington Beach, California with original members M. Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, The Rev and Matt Wendt. M Shadows came up with the name as a reference to the story of Cain and Abel from The Bible, although it is not a religious band. Upon its formation, each member of the band also took on a pseudonym which were already nicknames of theirs from high school. Before release their debut album, the band recorded two demos in 1999 and 2000.

In 2000 Matt Wendt had resigned from the band, but Justin Sane was replaced.

In 2001 A7X’s debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, was recorded when the band members were just eighteen years old and in high school. It was released on their first label, Good Life Recordings. And the first EP of A7X, Warmness on the Soul, was released too. This was the first CD to feature new guitarist Synyster Gates. Afterwards Justin was released from his contract with the band, because of a suicide attempt he made. But Dameon Ash was replaced.

In 2002 A7X was re- released Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on their new label, Hopeless Records. After released this album A7X got some trouble again when Dameon had resigned from the band, but Johnny Christ was replaced. And blood vessel in the throat of Shadows was ripped. For keep the quality of his voice he must not screaming for 5

years. So he had made the deal with their producer that the album they were working on at the time would be half singing and half screaming, and that the next would be all singing.

In 2003 the second album, Waking the Falllen, was released on Hopeless Records. This album was highly and received many praise from Rolling Stone. Shortly after the release of this album, A7X left Hopeless Reco rds and were signed to Warner Bros. Records.

In 2005 the third album, City of Evil, was released on Warner Bros. Records. The album obtains more hard rock sound than A7X’s previous two album, but it is the most successful album of A7X. And a song “Bat Country” in this album made A7X won “Best New Artist” at MTV’s Video Music Awards.

In 2007 A7X was released the first DVD, All Excess, on Warner Bros. Records. The DVD includes a documentary with footage dating back to 1999, four live performances, along with four music videos, and several outtakes. Afterwards the fourth album, Avenged Sevenfold (self-titled album), was released too. And in this year (2007) A7X came to Thailand.

In 2008 the second DVD, Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough, was released on Warner Bros. Records. Live in the LBC is a concert at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California. And Diamonds in the Rough is an album that contains previously unreleased B-sides that were records during the making of Avenged Sevenfold (album), plus various covers, and other never-before-herd material.

In 2009 The Rev was found dead at his home in Huntington Beach on Monday, December 28. The Orange County Police Department is investigating his death; they said that it appeared to be due to natural causes.
