(Continued from page 1)Bob Patterson followed this with Charlie

Justice’s “ Prohibition” ($25) using an empty glass  beer bottle and two bottle caps. He gave them tothe participants to examine. Next he placed onecap on the mouth of the bottle to keep it secured. He held the bottle in his hand and snapped theother cap on the bottom once, twice, and bang! Itwas inside the sealed bottle. He immediatelyhanded the bottle out to be examined. Then Bob

performed Cameron Francis’ “Total Annihilation”from the DVD Annihilation Deck ($30). Heshowed a deck of cards and stated that it containedtwo predictions. A card was freely chosen. The

magician does not see the face of the card. Bobthen ran through the deck and removed his two

prediction cards, which he said would reveal thevalue and suit of the selection. The two cards werethe Five of Spades and the Queen of Diamonds. The selected card was turned face up and found to

be the Eight of Clubs - no relation to either   prediction. The trick appeared to have failed. TheFive and the Queen are turned face down. One hadan Eight drawn on its back and the other had aClub drawn on its back, matching the selectedcard! (TLR Future, Jul 2010 pg 104, Future)

Dick Christian   performed DevinKnight's "Word

Sight " ($39)dictionary test. Themagician provided adictionary and twospectators thought of a word from thedefinitions page inthe back of the book. They each looked up

the meaning, andconcentrated on their word. Dick withoutsaying anything wrote two words on a pad, tore -off the paper, and place it on the table. The

participants revealed the words they were thinkingof and one of them picked up the paper and therewritten in bold letters are the same two words.Dick then presented another recent addition to thenow ever growing list of marble/ball/rock tricks,"  School Daze" ($35). A liar effect from Black'sMagic Group (reviewed in the March 2008 issue).

He pulled a small bag out of his pocket containingseveral marbles. Each person secretly took a

marble. They could lie or tell the truth when askedif they had the “steely” marble. After a fewquestions, he accurately told who had the steely. Then he performed a demo of Asi Wind's" Switcher " ($85), a book switching utility device

for magicians and mentalists (reviewed in the July2010 issue). One example of using the “Switcher ”is to have spectator chose one book from a stack of

books; then he tears out any page. The page ismarked and burned. Finally the spectator finds the

page restored and bound back in the book which heheld throughout the routine. (TLR Oct 2010 pg113, Mar

2008 pg 125, Jul 2010 pg106)  Kevin McGuire did a modified version of

Fronkey from 5 for £5 Kids Magic ($8 eBook) byOliver Meech. Two stacks of animal picture cardswere shown. The plot was to create an animal by

combining two cards. Two young girls selected acard from different piles. But when put together they did not make an animal. A box shown at the

start wassupposed tocontain asoft toyanimal tomatch the

selections.The trick seems to go

wrong wassaved by astrange

predictionwhen it was found they mysteriously merged toform another form in the box, Yoda! (TLR May 2010

by Bob Solari. He borrowed a bill from anaudience member and asked him to write a twodigit number on the bill andfold the bill inhalf so no onecan see thenumber. Arniethen removeda smallenvelope fromhis pocket anddropped the

bill inside. The envelopewas sealedand placed on the table. He forgot to bring a magicwand so he used his key case with a silver colored

waving the key over the envelope he would be ableto immediately divine the number. He called outthe number. Oops, wrong number. Tried again andstill the wrong number. He tossed down the keycase in disgust, picked up the envelope and tore itopen to check the number. But ... the bill wasgone!! Then he noticed that the key hanging fromthe case is silver. Of course, the only key that candivine numbers is gold! He unzipped the case toreveal the gold key. As he opened the case, theaudience was able see a bill inside. He opened the

bill. It was the same one borrowed earlier!! Arnie

then presented   Mind Freak Aces ($35) fromMasterminds by Criss Angel Vol 3, a twist on the 4ace routine known as MacDonald’s Aces (andmany other names). The four aces are removedfrom the pack and set on the table. Threeindifferent cards were placed on top of each ace. From each pile, one by one the three acesmysteriously, magically, and visually vanish as if the aces were melting away before their eyes! Themagician then turned to the last pile with the ace of diamonds and turned over the indifferent cards. They were the aces! The aces miraculously

regrouped together in the last pile! (TLR Future,Future)

Rucj Uffelman performed   Inside Thoughts ($38) by Haim Goldenberg. A spectator was askedto name a card, completely free choice. Rucj then

took a largeenvelope, whichwas lying in fullview all of thetime, and pull outof it a smaller envelope. As he

turned the smaller envelope upsidedown the namedcard fell into hishand. Hefollowed this with

Szechuan Sampler  ($69) byFred Rosenbaumfrom MentalismUnlimited. Before

starting he placed a large gift certificate in full

view. Rucj handed four authentic menus fromdifferent Chinese restaurants to four spectators,

informing them, "We're going ordered a four-course meal: an appetizer, main dish, side dish, anddessert.” Each restaurant had a wide variety of selections and all at different prices. He placed alarge gift certificate in full view. Next he had each

person choose a dish from any course on the menu. The performer took out a chalkboard and openlywrote down the price of the items as they werenamed. Each choose a different course and itemfrom their menus and the price was recorded in acolumn on the board. Then he totaled the bill, which was $23.45. The he said: “Let's see howmuch of that amount the gift certificatecovers."The gift certificate is turned around andwas seen to before the amount $23.45! (TLR Aug

2009 pg 105, Jul 2008 pg 110)  Bob Carnathan did Devin Knight’s Unshop

($39). This was a comical routine in which he  predicted the outcome of a shopping spree!Unshop means to return something at the checkout

counter becauseyou bought toomuch and cannotafford it. Bobinvited a male

participant to takean imaginaryshopping trip to astore to buy a new

outfit. His newoutfit would consistof a sport coat, shirt, necktie, pants, socks, shoes andeven a pair of boxer shorts (printed on

cards). Now when he gets to the checkout-counter,he discovers he does not have enough money withhim and has to return something to the shelf. The

participant then decided on an article of clothing toUnshop and is given the chance to change his

mind. He does not tell the article he returned. Themagician showed a large envelope and explainedthat inside is a prediction showing the returnedarticle of clothing. He pulled out a large barcodeand declared that this was the barcode for thearticle. He showed the envelope to be otherwiseempty. Then, he asked the participant which articleof clothing he returned. He said "Pants." Bobexclaimed that he was correct, insisting the

barcode was for a pair of pants. Finally, he turn the barcode around and showing a comical photo of aman wearing a sports coat, shirt, necktie, socks,

shoes and boxer shorts...however, he was missingthe pants! (TLR Future) (Continued on page 7)
