2 nd November 2017 RIMU TRIP TO WAITAKERE REFUSE AND RECYCLING STATION This term Rimu Syndicates inquiry is sustainability. Last week Rimu went to the Refuse and Recycling station. In the Year 4 trip there was a cow made out of rubbish bins and a fountain made of rubbish. We recycled and reused rubbish to make creative things like toy trains and pot plant holders. At the end of the trip we all knew how important it is to reuse, reduce and recycle. For the Year 3 trip we went on a bus tour of the Refuse Station and saw the big trucks working with the rubbish, the worm farm and a big cow made out of plastic. Lots of stuff can be recycled so we can save our Earth’s resources. By Cole, Ethan, Nate and Jai. PRINCIPAL’S SOAPBOX Dear Parents, Caregivers and family members, Without wishing to jinx anything, it does look like the weather is beginning to turn and we can look forward to warmer days. For this reason, please ensure that your child(ren) bring their school hats every day so this extra sunshine does not burn them.

The children have all completed their Calendar Art and families now have the opportunity to celebrate this work in several ways including greeting cards, calendars and diaries. The children will be bringing home more information about these items so check their bags for this. Orders close next Friday, so that we can get everything printed out and back to you all before Christmas, as they make great presents.

The staff and parents on the PTA are doing a superb job of organising extra money to spend on the children and need to have your support. In this newsletter, they are reminding everyone about several things including the Jolly Jar mufti day tomorrow, the Toyworld shopping night next week, and parents committing to helping at the Carnival in 4 weeks’ time. Thank you to everyone who is helping us to help the children.

Lastly, we are also reminding parents that school closes at 12.45pm on Thursday 23rd November as all the teachers from six schools in the Lynfield Cluster, are meeting that afternoon. We are also closed the following day (24th November) for a teacher only day and will be open an extra day before Christmas to make up for this lost learning time.

Have a great week everyone! Neil Robinson Principal

REMINDER:

Colference – 23rd November 2017 – School closes 12.45pm A reminder to parents and Caregivers that school will close early on the 23rd November so that all staff can attend a professional development session with all of the schools from the Lynfield Community of Learning. Please ensure you have made arrangements for your child to be collected as teachers will be leaving the school to attend the meeting. Care 4 Kidz will run from 12.45pm in the Technology room in the Manukau Block.

Teacher Only Day – 24th November 2017 – No School this day. School is also closed the following day for a teacher only day. On this day, the staff continue their plans for organisation and planning in preparation for the new school year.
