Municipal mill rate for Rimbey taxpayers increases by one per cent
Rimbey homeowners are looking at a one per cent in-crease in the mill rate for municipal taxes this year.
At its meeting, Monday, council approved the one per cent increase, despite a recommendation by administration to go with a two per cent increase.
Mayor Rick Pankiw said he would go as high as one per cent.
We all know the times were going through are tough right now, said Pankiw. I dont think we should go any higher than one per cent.
Councillors all followed Pankiws lead and opted to stay with a one per cent increase.
Im up for one percent. said Coun. Mathew Jaycox. One per cent would increase our reserves, said Coun.
One per cent seems like a reasonable compromise, added Coun. Paul Payson.
With a one per cent increase a residential property with an assessed value of $200,000 will see the municipal por-tion of their tax bill go up by about $11. A non-residential property with an assessed value of $500,000 will see an increase of about $57 in the municipal portion of their taxes.
The municipalitys requisition for school taxes came in at $859,4
