RIM MOUNTED ANDDUAL ACCESS LOCKS

G r a d i n g o f L o c k s

Commercial Grade locks are the premier range and are recommended for use in all applications e.g. Residential,Private Sector, Commercial Office, Retail and Entertainment Complexes and the whole spectrum of Public SectorDevelopments. These locks are of superior engineering design, robust construction, use thicker gauge metalsand are subject to stringent testing. Their performance is guaranteed subject to correct application.

Commercial Grade Locks

‘Standard’ Grade locks are designed to meet the demand for lower cost locks by Private and Public Sectordevelopers who need to meet strict budgetary constraints. The locks are “value engineered” to meet functionalrequirements at reduced costs. The performance of this range will be inferior to that of “Commercial” Grade locksand ASSA ABLOY do not guarantee their performance in high traffic situations and in conditions where they couldbe subject to abuse. Caution should be exercised when using these locks in combination with heavy unsprung orpoorly sprung lever handles.

Standard Grade Locks

Introduction

UNION offers a range of rim-mounted and dualaccess locks, which are ideal for commercial andresidential use.

The range includes rim locks and nightlatches as wellas a choice of two dual access devices to suit theparticular application.

UNION products are guaranteed for 1 year fromthe date of purchase against mechanical faultsarising from defects in materials or design. In theunlikely event of your UNION product failing as aresult of defective materials or design afree replacement product will be provided.

It is a condition of this guarantee that your UNIONproduct: • Has been correctly installed and maintained

in accordance with the instructions provided to you at the time of purchase

• Has not been modified in any way

This guarantee does not apply to mechanical faultscaused wilfully or negligently, or to the surface finishof your product.

Proof of purchase must be submitted when makinga claim under this guarantee and all claims mustbe submitted within 2 months of you discoveringthe mechanical fault of your UNION product.

Specifiers need to clearly document the intended Keying Option. Schematic representations as illustrated in Figures 1and 2 are recommended. Alternatively this can be done in tabular form, an example of this method is illustrated in figure3. (Attached please find a laminated blank table, for your use).

“Master Keyed” – indicates that designated locks canbe operated by two different keys, one, the “ServantKey” operates individual locks, whilst the “MasterKey” operates all locks. (This group of locks are referredto as a “Suite”, hence the term “en-suite” locks). Thereare limitations to the number of locks that can bemaster keyed in a single suite. We recommend thatyou consult your ASSA ABLOY technical salesconsultant in this regard. For a schematic representationof a Master Keyed system refer to figure 1.

Master Keyed

“Grand Master Keyed” – indicates that designatedlocks can be operated by three or more different keys,one, the “Servant Key” operates individual locks whilstthe “Grand Master Key” operates all locks. (The lockscan be grouped into two or more different “Sub Suites”where a “Sub Master Key” opens those in a particularSub Suite). The term “en-suite” is also applied to locksin this configuration. There are limitations to the numberof locks that can be master keyed in a single suiteand to the number of Sub Suites in such a system.We recommend that you consult your ASSA ABLOYtechnical sales consultant in this regard. For aschematic representation of a Grand Master Keyedsystem refer to figure 2.

Grand Master Keyed

“Keyed Alike” – indicates that designated locks canbe manufactured to be operated by a single standardkey. Locks are described as being “Keyed Alike toStandard Differs”. Alternatively designated locksunder a Master Key or Grand Master Key systemcan also be keyed alike. These are described asbeing “Keyed Alike under Master Key” or “KeyedAlike under Grand Master Key”.

Keyed Alike

“To Differ (i.e. Standard)” – indicates locks can besupplied with a standard range of different keys.This range varies from 18 in the case of certain 2lever locks to 500 in the case of certain 5 lever locks.The range of different keys available with Pin tumblercylinders is approximately 5000.

Keying Options

Only locks having identical mechanisms can be keyed into a common Keying System, i.e. “MasterKeyed”, “Grand Master Keyed” or “Keyed Alike”. To assist the specifier in identifying locks with identicalKeying Systems, we have introduced different coloured symbols in the Cylinder Selection Chart aswell as in the Specification Tables, on the following pages. Locks with identical mechanisms will haveidentical coloured symbols
