Cleaning Your Onyx Products

Glossy Finish: If you have Onyx products with a glossy finish, use a cloth or sponge with your favorite non-abrasive household cleaner. To protect the Onyx surface and to continually make the shower easier to clean, the Onyx Company recommends using a protective polish like Gel-Gloss® which leaves on a protective wax coating after the Onyx has been cleaned.

Matte Finish: For matte finish surfaces, you’ll also want to use a non-abrasive cleaner, cloth or sponge and protective polish. However, the Onyx Company recommends you polish matte surfaces more frequently.

Cleaning Products and Polishes

The Onyx Company recommends these cleaners and polishes: • Gel Gloss Protective Polish® • Ultra Glass Surface Sealer® • Eliminate® • Rain-X® Another option is to use a solution of 50% water and 50% white vinegar. White vinegar is great for removing soap scum and killing mildew. It also works well on shower doors!

Cleaning Your Faucets and Fixtures

According to Kohler, the best way to clean your faucets and fixtures is to rinse them thoroughly and blot dry. Don’t use abrasive or acidic cleaners that contain ammonia or bleach.

Cleaning Your Cabinets

According to Showplace Wood Products, it is best to avoid using silicone based cleaners when cleaning your cabinets. Silicone seeps into the finish making it difficult to touch up the cabinets later on. Polishes are a better option because they contain elements that clean the surface and leave behind mineral oil that acts as a barrier for dirt. When cleaning the cabinets always use a soft cloth. Don’t use anything abrasive like steel wool or scouring pads.

Cleaning Your Toilet And Sink

Just like your tub, your toilet and sink need a good rinse and thorough dry with a soft cloth. Abrasive cleaners can dull the surface of these areas. So a wipe down with non-abrasive cleaners will do the trick. You’ll then want to use a toilet cleaner for the inside of the toilet. Kohler does not recommend using in-tank toilet cleaners as they can damage the flush valve and other working components. Be sure to wipe away any cleaner that gets on plastic and plated surfaces as to not wear down these areas.

Kohler also states that over time, hard water deposits may clog toilet rim holes. To remedy this, use a commercial cleaner recommended specifically for the removal of hard water deposits.

Cleaning Your Bathtub

It is smart to use a cleaner that will dissolve in water as to not leave residue behind. After washing, thoroughly rinse the tub and then use a soft cloth to wipe dry. Do not use steel wool, wire brushes or abrasive sponge pads.

Cleaning Products

For acrylic tubs, Kohler suggests: • Fantastik Antibacterial Heavy Duty® • Tilex Soap Scum Remover® • Lysol Bathroom Cleaner® • Green Works All Purpose Cleaner®

These are not cream based cleaners, which Kohler warns against as they have a tendency to reduce friction on non-slip surfaces.
