Fourth Grade “EXPLORE”
EXPLORE is RES 4th Grade’s version of the 30 minute Intervention Block.
Students are grouped with other students who are similar learners.
Teachers plan learning activities that are inspired by Dunlap’s Vision Statement.
Students are challenged to use their brains in ways they’ve never done before!
Effective Communicators
Communication Challenge
Students competed in teams to build a replica of a mystery structure model. Each student’s role had an impairment that had to be overcome in order to succeed in the challenge. (For example, not being able to speak or see the structure)
•Director : sees the model, but can’t build it. •Builder: builds model without seeing it• Runner: delivers directions from the Director to Builder, without being able to speak!
Critical Thinkers
Popsicle Stick Challenges
Students were challenged to manipulate popsicle sticks to make various new designs. Students learned to “think outside the box,” and to persevere through a frustrating problem!
“Make 3 identical squares by moving 4 popsicle sticks...”

The Great Egg Drop Challenge
Students were challenged to create a container that would protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from Ridgeview’s roof.

Students were challenged to create new musical instruments that played 3 different sounds. Then they were grouped into bands, and had to compose and perform an original song for the class.
Self-motivated learners, Technology-capable creators
Students chose any topic of personal interest to research.
They created presentations in Glogster, Prezi, or Animoto and used the Smart Board to share them with their Explore group.
