Suggested Route: From the Catskill Interpretive Center (CIC), ride west on State Route 28 to Mount Tremper (1 mile). Turn right onto SR212 and ride north to villages of Willow, Lake Hill and then Bearsville. Turn left onto the Glasco Turnpike (County Route 33). Turn right at the intersection with Meads Mountain Road into Woodstock. Turn right onto SR212. At the intersection with Wittenberg Road (CR45), bear left. At the hamlet of Wittenberg, turn right onto CR40 (also Wittenberg Road) and ride west, passing Kenneth Wilson Campground. Continue west to Winnie Road. Turn left and take Winnie Road to SR28. Turn right and return to the CIC.

Length: About 21.6 miles

Scenic Vistas: • Catskill Interpretive Center—The mist-shrouded mountains beckon your inner Rip Van Winkle to

explore them.

• Mount Tremper Fire Tower—Magnificent 360° views await from this lofty sentinel’s observation cabin (5.5-mile round-trip hike from the parking area off CR40 in Phoenicia).

Attractions: • Catskill Interpretive Center—Your Catskills gateway, with interactive displays, maps and information on

recreation, wildlife, arts and culture.

• Fishing Legendary Esopus Creek—Public access in Mount Tremper, along sections of Mount Pleasant Road, or on CR40 between Phoenicia and Mount Tremper.

• Tubing the Esopus—Try thrilling rapids or calmer waters (tube rentals in Phoenicia).

• Entertainment—Catch a play at Bearsville Theatre. In Woodstock, enjoy performances at Levon Helm Studios, the Maverick and Woodstock Playhouse. Upstate Films screens foreign and independent films year-round.

Dining: Options abound, with restaurants, cafes and diners featuring menus from gourmet to family-style fare.
