By CarThe college is located adjacent to the A316 Chertsey Road in Twickenham. Parking is available during the day in the car parks accessed via the A316 dual carriageway travelling west. From January 2016, parking will be limited due to campus redevelopment.

By Public TransportBusMany buses pass close to the college including numbers: 33, 110, 267, 281, 290, H22, R68 and R70. There are bus stops on Whitton Road and London Road.

RailTwickenham station is approx. a 10 minute walk from the college.

Money Matters

Instalment PlansWe offer instalment plans to students who are over 19 years old and enrolled on courses costing over £300 and over 12 weeks duration.

FeesFee paying students are required to pay full fees (including any exam/registration fees) at the time of enrolment. Where courses have a registration fee independent of the college, students will be required to pay these fees directly to the registration body that may also charge for exam papers. If your employer is paying your fees, they will be invoiced at a later date.

Fee ConcessionsFee concessions may be available on some courses, depending on your age, previous qualifications and circumstances. You may not need to pay fees if you are under 24 years of age, and are receiving any of the following benefits:

Job Seekers Allowance

Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and are in a work-related activity group (WRAG)

Universal Credit and are unemployed and required to undertake skills training

A state benefit, and you want to enter employment and need training skills to do so

You may be entitled to fee concessions:

If the course for which you are applying is your first full Level 2 or full Level 3 qualification

Please contact our Finance Office (020 8607 8347) for further information about fee concessions. You will need to provide proof of benefits.

Money Matters

24+ Advanced Learning Loans are available for students over 24 years of age wanting to study any Level 3 or 4 course. The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is easy to apply for and students do not have to pay anything back until your income is over £21,000 p/a. If your loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme and you go on to successfully complete a Higher Education degree qualification then you do not have to pay back the Advanced Learning Loan.

24+ Bursary FundIf you are in receipt of the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan or have had your 24+ loan approved by the Student Loans Company and are in financial hardship, you are eligible to apply to the Fund. The Bursary Fund can provide help with the cost of childcare, books and exam fees. You can pick up an application form from Training Solutions, or pop into the Student Support Office. Alternatively you can contact Bridget Jones, our Student Advisor, on 020 8607 8311/ [email protected].

Discretionary Learner Support Discretionary Learner Support (DLS) is for students who are in financial hardship and dependent on means tested benefits or on a household income of less than £26,000 p/a.

You are eligible to apply for DLS if all of the following apply:

You are aged 19 to 23 on an further education course up to and including Level 3

You are enrolled on a government funding further education course at Richmond upon Thames College

You have been assessed as a home student (eg UK or EU students, ordinarily a resident in the UK, refugee status or leave to remain)

You can prove that you are in financial hardship by showing the evidence required

Childcare – full time and part time studentsIf your household income is less than £26,000 p/a you may be eligible for help with childcare. We can only help if you are using childcare registered with Ofsted. To apply, you will need to make an appointment to see our Student Advisor, please call on 020 8607 8311/[email protected].

Enhanced Learning Credits SchemeRuTC is delighted to be able to support the MOD's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) and to be able to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces by providing training opportunities for all service personnel, particularly those that have left service. The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years. ELC funding is only available for pursuit of higher level learning ie for courses that result in a nationally recognised qualification at Level three or above on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales), a Level six or above on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) or, if pursued overseas, an approved international equivalent qualification. Higher Education

Students can apply for help from Student Finance England. When you are in receipt of your full entitlement, you may be able to apply for the HE Access to Learning Fund. For more information, please call our Student Advisor on 020 8607 8311/[email protected].

Richmond Parish Lands CharityRichmond Parish Lands Charity may be able to help students who are in need of financial assistance, and who are living within the postcode areas of TW9, TW10 or SW14. Further information may be obtained by visiting the website www.rplc.org.uk/education-support.htm.

Our Facilities and Services

Car Parking FREE on site car parking is available to all students during college opening hours. From January 2016, parking will be limited due to campus redevelopment.

Careers CentreOur careers centre is open every day between 10am and 4pm. Specialist careers and education advisors are available via booked appointments and drop in sessions to give information and advice about education and employment. The careers centre is well resourced with books, online resources and a number of helpful guides about career change or progression to university. Our advisors can also help with your CV or university application form. Please contact our careers advisors on 020 8607 8321/8324 if you are unable to make the above opening times and they can talk to you over the phone.

Learning Resource CentreThe Learning Resource Centre provides access to a range of services including printing, photocopying and scanning. Computers and study spaces are available for work and research. Our Library Catalogue, available online, allows learners to search across our collection of books, DVDs and CDs. The Learning Resource Centre also provides access to online resources, many available off campus, including eBooks, full text journal archives, databases, training guides and many other sources of

information. Open during term time 8.30am to 5.00pm Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 8.30am to 6.00pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Fitness GymThe fitness gym is FREE for students to use at selected times/weekdays during term time only, please contact the sports centre directly for further information. Students can access the gym outside of college hours including weekends at a discounted rate of £12.00 per month or £3.00 per session. For further information, please contact the Sports Centre on 020 8607 8223/[email protected].

RefreshmentsFood and drinks are available to purchase from the college’s refectory. Opening hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 8.00am to 2.30pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Our Facilities and Services

Additional Learning SupportIf you have a known disability or learning difference please contact our Disability Officer, Paul Smyth, or visit the Learning Skills Workshop to discuss your needs with a member of the Additional Learning Support (ALS) team. The college can provide support for a wide range of disabilities and learning differences including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, hearing and visual impairments, mental health and mobility impairment. If you suspect you have a learning difference but have never been assessed, please ask for an appointment with one of our ALS Tutors, who will be able to carry out an assessment. The ALS team can help with English and mathematics and also assess students for access to special exam arrangements such as extra time, modifications to papers and more.

The Learning Skills Workshop is open: 9.00am - 4.15pm (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) and 9.00am - 5.00pm (Tuesdays). Please contact Paul Smyth on 020 8607 8173/ [email protected].

Advice ServicesOur Student Advisor offers advice and information on a wide range of practical and financial issues. There

are various strands of additional financial support available to adult students, please contact Bridget Jones on 020 8607 8311/[email protected] if you would like to discuss anything in more detail.

CounsellingThe college’s counselling service is able to sign-post and advise adult learners about appropriate services in the community. Appointments can be made via our confidential email [email protected].

Students’ UnionAll students will automatically become a member of the college’s Student Union. This entitles you to apply for an NUS Extra card which gives discounts at dozens of retailers. Specialist Subject FacilitiesWe have up to date specialist subject facilities to support your course, these include photographic and art and design studios, sports facilities, engineering and construction crafts workshops to name a few.

Access to Higher Education DiplomasWe offer a wide range of Access to Higher Education Diplomas which are ideal if you are aged 19+ on 31 August 2015 and would like to return to study and/or change career direction, and wish to gain entry to university or advanced vocational training. Access courses are widely accepted by universities as the adult equivalent of A levels and they will help you develop the required study skills to progress to higher level study.

Higher Education coursesRichmond upon Thames College boasts a niche provision for its higher education work focussing on graphic design, engineering and construction, early years and IT. The majority of students are either in work or find employment as a result of studying at RuTC. We offer specialist vocational programmes with a strong work related emphasis leading to widely recognised national qualifications. Our Higher Education courses provide an excellent opportunity to develop essential skills for higher level work which could improve career prospects.

Statutory coursesThese short statutory qualifications enable individuals and businesses to comply with the law and regulations as well as providing vital staff development and training opportunities.

We offer a wide range of courses and training programmes from September 2015. So whether you are interested in learning a new skill such as IT coding, would like to progress further in your career and study a professional qualification such as AAT or you are keen to study at a higher level, eg HND Graphic Design, then we have the course for you.

We provide flexible and professional opportunities to meet employers’ training and development needs – from recruiting and advertising for staff, to training them and also ensuring that all are compliant with new regulatory requirements (see statutory courses). Apprenticeships

At Richmond upon Thames College we have been training apprentices for many years and will provide you with dedicated support and excellent training to ensure success.

What is an apprenticeship?An apprenticeship is a real job with training enabling you to gain recognised qualifications. You will be employed in a job role that is relevant to your apprenticeship and also undertake training and qualifications in the workplace and at college.
