About the Foundation

Mission The Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists, Inc. seeks to develop rising generations of musicians by ensuring young bassists access to the best and most inspiring teachers and bass masters. Exposure to the most prestigious teachers in the world in a variety of musical styles expands the horizon of the student in terms of how they perceive their own potential and that of the bass itself. So that these young people may approach college age better prepared to take advantage of scholarships and maximize their talents and abilities.

To meet the needs of young bassists, the Foundation is committed to ensuring that the tools for success are made available to students by supporting the annual conference, instrument program, and scholarship funds.

Annual Conference The Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists, Inc. organizes a fun and educational annual 2-day workshop for young bassists age 3-18 and their families on the beautiful University of Wisconsin Campus in Madison, WI.

Young bassists of any skill level, or musical interest are welcomed to a supportive, familial atmosphere where they enjoy a variety of classes, Q&A sessions, recitals, concerts, and informal networking opportunities all focused on the bass (upright string bass and electric bass).

In a challenging and supportive environment, students are guided by an expert faculty of renowned performers, composers and pedagogues/professors, who are carefully selected to represent a diversity of performance styles/interests, and personal backgrounds.

Now approaching its 25th year of operation, success of the annual conference is evident by the hundreds of students who have attended the annual conference and since matriculated to successful careers, the widespread adoption of the Richard Davis Foundation bass conference format by groups nationally/ internationally and by the enthusiasm of students and staff who return year after year.
