PASTOR’S CORNER Welcome to the Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community! This weekend we officially begin the Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community with the member parishes of Saints Peter & Paul, Boniface and James. There has been a lot of work that has gone into creating this new community of parishes. Allow me to begin with a list of gratitude:

THANK YOU – Fathers Julius Beckermann, OSB, and Edward Vebelun, OSB, for your amazing pastoral leadership to the communities of Saints James and Peter & Paul.

THANK YOU – Roger Bechtold, Steve Brecht, Kay Coapstick, Kris Dockendorf, Maria Dominguez, Mary Ann Kammers, Jodi Lubbers, Lori Mueller, Tucker Plantenberg, Matthew Reichert, Jim Willenbring, Jennifer Wirz, and Mike Zimmer for serving on our Transition Team. The members of the TT spent hours in meetings and outside of meetings planning, consulting and working to give our new Catholic Community the best possible start.

THANK YOU – to Dr. Barbara Sutton from Saint John’s School of Theology who was our facilitator through the process of forming the RSP CC.

THANK YOU – to Father Cletus, Deacons Larry and Jerry, the members of the staff from the member parishes who have also spent much time and energy working to make this the best Catholic Community in the Diocese of Saint Cloud.

THANK YOU – to one and all for your patience through this process. I know from the moment the letters arrived in February to our Informational Meeting, to the news articles in the bulletins, there has been many ups and downs already. Your ability to roll with the punches is deeply appreciated.

THANK YOU – to all the businesses and individuals who advertised with this new bulletin—they make it possible for us to reach all of you with news from our member parishes.

JULY 2, 2017—THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Our Lady, Star of the Sea, pray for us – As we begin this new adventure, please join me in asking Mary, Our Lady, Star of the Sea, to pray for the Rich Spring Prairie Catholic Community. In the preparation process for the RSP CC, I ran across the following prayer:

Lord God, Redeemer and inspiration of souls, in the Blessed Virgin Mary, Star of the Sea,

you have provided a light in the storm; by her favour and prayer,

grant that we may set a course through these times to reach our safe haven in heaven with you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

CHURCH OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL CHURCH OF SAINT BONIFACE CHURCH OF SAINT JAMES

This in many ways is perfect for us—Saint Peter was a fisherman, Saint Paul traveled across the sea (and was shipwrecked for a while on Malta), Saint James has the symbol of the seashell, Saint Boniface arrived in Germany across the sea from England. Our common goal is to reach our safe haven together, and so we invoke the prayers of the Blessed Mother for this new Catholic Community of parishes.

Happy Independence Day – We join with our fellow americans this week to thank God for the blessing of our native land and the freedoms we enjoy. We ask God to help us be wise stewards of the blessings He bestows upon us.

Faith Formation

Vacation Bible Service Project – Each year in VBS we discuss and learn ways we can help those in need around the world. This year we listened to stories of women and children who must walk up to eight hours a day to collect water for their families. Often the water is unsafe to drink as well. Our service project was to collect funds to help communities drill bore wells to access clean safe water. We were able to send $300 to the Mission Office to be distributed to Catholic Relief Services in communities in need of wells. Many thanks to the children, team and families that helped raise these funds.

The Faith Formation Office – will be closed during the month of July. If you need assistance please contact Deb in the Parish office.

Teri Krowka-Ansberry, Dir, 597-2575/[email protected]

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time "Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." When Jesus says paradoxical things like this, we can still trust him. Even when he makes claims that, at first glance, seem impossible, we know that he's not talking

gibberish. Why? Because Jesus lived the ultimate paradox: he brought life out of death. His resurrection proves for us that things are not always as they appear. The Crucifixion, which looked like the end of Jesus' influence, was actually a tremendous new beginning. So when Jesus promises that we will find life through a kind of death, we shouldn't question his claim. Of course in today's Gospel, Jesus isn't necessarily talking about physical death, although the "red" martyrs who suffer for him do in fact find their reward in eternal life. "White" martyrdom, on the other hand, is a kind of death to self that doesn't involve bloodshed. It means putting love and generous service ahead of our own self-gratification. It means doing these things for the sake of Christ. When he tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, this is what he's talking about.

Saints Peter & Paul Parish Calendar

Everyday Stewardship It took five years of marriage before I was ready to have that first baby. Of course, now that I have three children I cannot imagine a life without them. After twenty-five years, I cannot imagine life without my wife as well. And I know that I am lucky. I know those who have lost children or have been widowed. They couldn't imagine life without their loved ones either. The tough reality to digest is that we don't own those whom we love. They are all gifts from God, entrusted to each of us as good stewards. If we cling too tightly, we become like the steward who buried his talents in the ground. If we don't care enough, we become like the prodigal son who squandered his gifts on gambling and frivolous living. But can we love our loved ones too much? I am not sure it is possible to love others too much if it is genuine love. However, if we truly love them, then we will want to lead them to the One that gave them to us in the first place: God. We do that by demonstrating that no one comes before God in our lives, not even our family. In this world, our loved ones make living meaningful. But this world is not the end. As much as we love them here, our ultimate goal is for them to live eternally with God. May my wife and kids never think I chose them over God, so that they may choose God over all else, as well. - Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

“En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus apóstoles: El que ama a su padre o a su madre más que a mí, no es digno de mí; el que ama a su hijo o a su hija más que a mí, no es digno de mí; y el que no toma su cruz y me sigue, no es digno de mí. El que salve su vida la perderá y el que la pierda por mí, la salvará.” (Mateo 10, 37-40)

Pork Chop and Corn on the Cob Feed – is Aug 12. Everyone is welcome, and bring a friend.

Father, I come to this July 4th, grateful for my country

and grateful for the men and women who gave

their lives so that I might be free.

I proclaim my allegiance to my country and total

dedication to you, my Lord.

As I watch the magnificent explosions

of color on this red, white, and blue holiday,

I am reminded of my spectacular Lord and

Savior who is great beyond my imagination. May the name of the Lord be praised and celebrated throughout our country on this our joyous national

holiday! Amen

Thursday ’s – after 9 AM Mass until 4:30 PM
