The Medical Students´ Association (MSA) Global Health Program (GHP) aims to increase awareness among the student body about global health issues locally and internationally, where we define global health as the health of under-served populations. The group aspires to do this by engaging students in local activities that deal with health inequities and foster advocacy skills.
We provide students with opportunities for international experiences and electives, and help to expand their horizons. Prior to going on an elective to the developing world we provide pre-departure training for all students. The MSA GHP is also responsible for assisting with charitable events and educational campaigns such as the MSA Global Health Photo Contest and Silent Auction, the Rich Man Poor Man Dinner, the MSA Global Health Awareness Week and World AIDS Day.

Students International Health Association (SIHA)
The Students' International Health Association (SIHA) is a student-run non-profit organization that works both locally within Edmonton and other Alberta regions and internationally in rural regions in Tanzania, East Africa
SIHA's projects are based on a "Health for All" perspective and are structured around the goals of reducing child mortality, combating malaria, HIV and other prevalent diseases within the communities in which we work.
SIHA’s activities focus primarily on education and community engagement. By delivering local, grassroots seminars on disease prevention and basic care, along with the distribution of basic health provisions and the promotion of local groups, SIHA aims to reduce the social and economic hardships presented by major health threats in low-resource settings.

School of Public HealthMPH Global Health Program
Global health aims to promote health equity amongst all nations and all people.with a focus on the problems and challenges that affect the poor, vulnerable and underserved populations worldwide. The “global” in global health refers to the scope of the problem, not necessarily the location. The principles of global health are applicable to both low and middle-income countries and for the reduction of health disparities in Canada and other developed countries.
Public health practice is an integral part of the MPH degree. The practicum is a full-time hands-on experience in a public health work setting. It provides the opportunity for students to integrate and synthesize public health philosophy, theory and practice through application and critical assessment. Students contribute to a community or organization’s capacity to critically assess public health issues, and design, implement and evaluate strategic initiatives, while at the same time gaining confidence and skills as public health professionals.
