    DEFINITIONS OF STANDARDS OF RICE

Rice Standards means the minimum specifications for rice of each type and grade for domestic, trade and internatio

    trade.

Rice means non-glutinous and glutinous (Oriya sativa L.) in whatever form.

Paddy means rice that is not already dehusked.

Cargo rice (Loonzain rice, Brown rice, Husked rice) means rice that is dehusked only.

White rice means rice that is obtained by removing bran from Cargo non-glutinous rice.

White glutinous rice means rice that is obtained by removing bran from cargo glutinous rice.

Parboiled rice means non-glutinous rice that has passed through the parboiling process and had its bran removed.

Rice classification means rice kernels of various lengths as specified which are a mixture of rice kernels in each class

    accordance with the specified proportion.

Classes of rice kernels means classes of rice kernels which are classified in accordance with the length of the wh

    kernel.

Parts of rice kernels mean each part of the whole kernel that is divided lengthwise into 10 equal parts.

Whole kernels mean rice kernels that are in whole condition without any broken parts, including kernels that have

length as from 9 parts onward.

Head rice means broken rice kernels whose lengths are more than those of brokens but have not reached the length

whole kernels. This includes split kernels that retain the area as from 80% of the whole kernel.

Brokens mean broken kernels that have the length as from 2.5 parts but have not reached the length of head rice. T

includes split kernels that retain the area less than 80% of the whole kernel.

Small brokens C1 Mean small broken kernels that pass through round hole metal sieve No.7.

Undermilled kernels mean milled rice kernels that have the milling degree below that specified for each grade of rice.

Red kernels mean rice kernels that have red bran covering the kernels, wholly or partly.

Yellow kernels mean rice kernels that have some parts of kernels turned yellow. This includes parboiled rice kernels t

are light brown, partly or wholly.

Black kernels mean parboiled rice kernels that are black for the whole kernel, including kernels that are dark brown.

Partly black kernels mean parboiled rice kernels that have a black or dark brown on the kernel as from 2.5 parts onwa

but not reaching the whole kernel.

Peck kernels mean parboiled rice kernels that have black or dark brown areas not reaching 2.5 parts.

Chalky kernels mean non-glutinous rice kernels that have an opaque area like chalk covering the kernels as from 5

    onwards.

Damaged kernels mean kernels that that are obviously damaged as can be seen by the naked eye due to moisture, h

    fungi, insects or other.

Undeveloped kernels mean kernels that do not develop normally as should be, and are flat without starch.

Immature kernels mean rice kernels that are light green, obtained from immature paddy.

Other seeds mean seeds of other matter than rice.

Foreign matter means other matter than rice. This includes rice husk and bran detached from rice kernels.

Milling degree means the degree to which the rice is milled.

Sieve means round hole metal sieve No. 7, that is 0.79 mm. (0.069 inch).

The unit per cent means percentage by weight except for weight of grain classification which is percentage by quantit

We inspect rice products and general cargo for many countries worldwide.

Locally we also work with The Public Warehouse Organization (a Government subsidized project) under The Ministry o

Commerce to ensure the rice purchased by various warehouses meets specified quality standards.

    Inspection and Testing of Rice

According the needs and requirements of our clients, the inspection or expertise offered by the agricultural division

AIM Control Group. Can cover one or several of the following services :

Verification and supervision of the goods at loading or discharge (vessel, rake, container, trucks, etc.)

Ascertainment of the weight (by mechanical/volumetric methods or by draft survey)

    Sampling as per international standards

Quality inspection (condition of the cargo, physical parameters and organoleptic analysis)

Quality analysis / Testing at laboratory

Cleanliness inspections (hatches, containers, wagons, etc. before loading the goods)

    Tally (during loading or discharge)

Other services based on the above-mentioned activities or based on inspection and/or expertise of agricult

    commodities upon request

We would like to inform you of our specialisation in the worldwide wherein we have with continuous research

collaboration with the Vietnamese & International research institutes developed new expertise and capabilities in the

few years. Our role as an inspection and testing agency is not only to analyse the traditional parameters of Vietnames

International rice like moisture, broken, yellow kernels, damaged/discoloured kernels, red/red-streaked kernels, fore

matter, etc., but to identify the pure Vietnamese & International kernels from the rest (admixture). Many methods h

been employed to discriminate Vietnamese & International from other varieties such as visual appearance, cook

    analysis, etc.

Till today one of the most dependable methods to check adulteration of rice for the low grade varieties of rice was

conventional grand mothers method, i.e. the cooking test. After cooking the kernels are segregated according to t

elongation in length and widening in breadth (it is this highest elongation in length and lowest widening in breadth af

cooking that gives Vietnamese & International the slender appearance on the platter). However, this test alone doe

give 100 % reliability, because of the development and introduction of new seeds very close to the traditional varieties

Vietnamese & International rice. The cooking test must be carried out jointly with another test called Alkali Diges

Test. This test indicates the type and degree of disintegration of the starchy endosperm of the kernels, on that basis

kernels are rated on a seven-point numerical scale (each variety has a different position on the numerical scale).

Apart from admixture (of other varieties of rice), an inspection of Vietnamese & International rice is especially impor

for the weight, packing and marking of the bags/packages especially when Vietnamese & International rice is exporte

    consumer packs of 5, 10, 20 and 25, 35, 50 kgs with grade 100%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10% & 5% broken.

The inspections of Vietnamese & International rice are usually carried out as per the grades/standards stipulated

Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of Vietnamese & International for brown, parboiled and raw Vietnamese

International rice meant for export. However, Vietnamese & International rice analysis can also be carried out as

customized specifications or type-samples approved and sealed by the buyers (the samples drawn at the time

inspection and the type-samples are compared on the basis of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of Vietnames

    International parameters).
