WHAT IS A NATIONAL PARK?

National Parks are scenic or historically important areas of countryside protected by the federal government for the enjoyment of the general public or for conservation.

HISTORY

The national park idea has been credited to the artist George Catlin.

Forty-four years after the establishment of Yellowstone, President Woodrow Wilson, created the National Park Service on August 25, 1916

Yosemite National Park, established on October 1, 1890, was California’s first park.
