Rexroth A1VO35 variable displacement axial piston pump wins “Golden Mousetrap” best product award from Design News magazine
The A1VO35 variable displacement axial piston pump from Rexroth reduces energy consumption while maintaining performance.
Design News magazine editors recognize Rexroth’s compact, energy-
efficient A1VO35 pump for its ability to deliver economical load-sensing
capabilities in a small, cost-effective package.
(Charlotte, NC – www.boschrexroth-us.com) Design News magazine, a
leading mechanical and design engineering publication, recently named
Rexroth’s A1VO35 variable displacement axial piston pump as a 2012
“Golden Mousetrap Best Product Winner” in the Automation and Control
category.
The magazine is announcing the winners of its annual best products contest
in the March issue and on its website at www.designnews.com.
Golden Mousetrap Best Product awards were given in four major categories:
Electronics and Test; Automation and Control; Design Tools; and Materials
and Assembly. For more than 20 years the Design News awards program
has recognized engineering innovation and creativity in product design.
Rexroth’s A1VO35 offers the benefit of load-sensing principles used on larger
machines’ axial piston variable pumps in which hydraulic systems provide
power only when needed. This consumes less fuel and produces fewer
emissions than constant displacement pump systems.

Bosch Rexroth designed the A1VO series to bring the fuel savings of load-
sensing technology to the smaller power classes of mobile machinery. In
addition to being a cost-effective alternative to constant pumps, the A1VO35
offers an economical switch from open-center design to a load-sensing
system.
To make the switch appealing for manufacturers, the A1VO35 has
dimensions and performance data similar to that of fixed-displacement
pumps. It offers speeds up to 3,000 rpm, a rated working pressure of 3600
psi, peak pressure up to 4500 psi and a flow capacity of up to 27.7 gallons
per minute. And its overall efficiency is nearly 90%. Yet its displacement is
only 35 cubic centimeters. Its useful service life -- 6,000 operating hours -- is
comparable to that of the larger Rexroth A10V series pumps used on large
tractors and mobile applications.
The energy savings provided by the A1VO35 load-sensing technology lowers
diesel fuel consumption by more than 2,500 gallons (10,000 liters) over its
useful life and reduces noise emissions by up to 3 dB(A) over conventional
pumps. These benefits will make it easier for applications using A1VO35 to
meet increasingly strict international regulations.
With its universal through-drive, the A1VO35 is easy to combine with a broad
range of axial piston pumps, gear pumps and other hydraulic pumps. That
makes the Rexroth A1VO35 a good choice for applications such as tractors,
skid steers, forklifts, gate lifts and truck-mounted cranes for on-road vehicles.
It was the second straight year that a Rexroth product was a Golden
Mousetrap winner. The Rexroth IndraLogic XLC was honored last year.
The A1VO35 was also honored in Italy, receiving the “Eima mention” award in
the 2012 Eima Technical Innovation Contest. The Eima jury, a scientific
committee consisting of representatives from Italian trade associations,
professors and technicians from universities and research centers,
recognized the new Rexroth pump for its combination of efficiency, reliability
and energy savings.
