2Steering groupTeam of young people

Meet every month

Discuss what young people need to know and what they would like to do

Decide what projects or activities we do

Project Nirvana is run by a group of young people that are called the steering group.

The steering group has 6 young people, some of them have learning disabilities and some dont. The young people all respect each other and their opinions.

They meet every month to talk about what is important to young people and what they think they should know about or what they would like to do.They then decide what projects or activities we run.

The steering group came up with the name Nirvana because it means that everyone should be equal and people shouldnt judge each other and the young people thought this was a good thing to work toward.

The steering group also designed our leaflet.

We have a youth club on a Monday evening from 4.30 till 6.30 at Hatters Space in Nuneaton.

We do different things there that encourage young people to get to know each other better and think about what they can do in their community to make a difference.

Some of the things we have done include:

Next week we are hoping to do a disability awareness session to help young people understand what it is like to be in a wheelchair or be visually impaired, etc.

We support the young people in Project Nirvana to organise their own events or projects, this helps them to practice working together, think of others, learn negotiating and budgeting skills and try new things.

We have a residential coming up in August where we will be taking a group of young people to Derbyshire for some glamping!

We are also planning a talent show where young people can take part to show off what they are good at and raise money for charity.6Contact us Call us on 02476361800
