Archaeology DetectivesHow do archaeologists use artifacts to

answer questions about the past? Explore the ways in which everyday objects (fragments of plates, animal bones, tobacco pipes, and seeds) become parts of a picture about colonial life. Hands-on program offering age-appropriate activities. (60 mins.) Wednesdays (September 11 and 18) at 10:30 a.m. (ages 9–12) and 1:30 p.m. (ages 12–14) Archaeology Lab. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult (one adult per child because of limited space). $5 ticket required.

Meet Ann Wager, Mistress of the Bray SchoolThe Bray Society in England promoted education for enslaved children in the colonies. in Williamsburg, Ann Wager conducted the Bray School for negro children in the community. Meet her and learn about her hopes and aspirations for academic achievement. What will you uncover in this 18th-century classroom? (45 mins.) Fridays (September 13 and 20) at 9:30 a.m. Mary Stith House. $5 ticket required.

The Blacksmith’s Apprentice visit the Blacksmith and uncover the practices of a real working armoury during a time of war. Discover the secrets behind manufacturing and repairing locks, tools, hinges, and a whole lot more! Hands-on program for children 8–12. (60 mins.) Mondays and Fridays (September 9, 13, 16, and 20) at 9:30 a.m. Blacksmith. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed

adult (one adult per child because of limited space). $15 ticket required.

The Shoemaker’s Apprenticevisit the Shoemaker and

discover the art and mystery of the trade. investigate the tools of the shop while measuring feet and creating shoe patterns. Develop your own shoe design—an important skill in this one of a kind trade! Hands-on program for children 10 and up. (60 mins.) Saturdays (September 7, 14, and 21) at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Shoemaker. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult (one adult per child because of limited space). $15 ticket required.

Life of a SoldierLive the life of a soldier! go back in time to 1778 and enlist in the virginia State garrison Regiment. Sign your name in the regimental daybook, meet your sergeant on your first day of training, receive your orders and be assigned living quarters. Learn to march and to practice the musket exercise. Watch demonstrations of loading

and firing the cannon. Walking tour. Recommended for children 7–12. (55 mins.) Tuesdays and Thursdays (September 10, 12, 17, and 19) at 11, 11:20, 11:40 a.m., noon, and 12:20 p.m. Market Square. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $5 ticket required.

Bits and Bridlesinterested in the animals and carriages in the Revolutionary City? Discover Colonial Williamsburg’s modern stable and rare breed programs. view the facilities and vehicles and discuss animal treatment and training. (60 mins.) Monday–Thursday (September 9–12 and 16–19) at 12:30 p.m. Botetourt and nicholson. $5 ticket required.

Mother goose’s Riddles and Rhymes TourExplore around the Powell family’s property with Mother goose in mind. Recommended for children ages 3–7. (45 mins.) Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (September 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, and 20) at 9:30, 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Benjamin Powell House. All children must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $5 ticket required.
