Telemet IQ
Telemet Orion’s Microsoft Excel Add-In
Executive Summary Telemet puts research, analytics and real-time market data at your fingertips. Telemet IQ, bundled with
the Telemet Orion investment platform, puts financial data into the world’s most popular spreadsheet program,
Microsoft Excel.
Telemet clients get stunning reports and charts that are ‘presentation’ ready. The data is the latest real-
time prices and financial information. Analysts save time and effort because no manual entry of financial data
(income statements, balance sheets, ratios, and cash flows) is necessary. There is more time for company
analysis, such as comparing financials and performing ‘what if’ analysis on expenses or revenue.
Telemet Orion software also bundles in several sample spreadsheets & templates that illustrate common
ways Telemet IQ can be used for reporting. To access the pre-built reports: Open Telemet Orion, then from
any Telemet Orion window click Display > Research > Excel Templates. Template instructions are on each
template.
A note for long-time Telemet clients - Telemet IQ is an enhancement on Telemet’s previous Microsoft
Excel Add-in, called MarketLink. This is because Telemet IQ uses powerful, fast Real Time Data (RTD)
technology from Microsoft whereas Telemet MarketLink used the older Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
standard.

on your “Add-Ins” tab (Ribbon), shown below using Excel 2010:
If the Telemet IQ icon does not appear, refer to Appendix 1 on Page 16 of this report or contact Telemet

The Telemet IQ screen after ‘Symbol Selection’ & ‘Field Selection’ choices have been made is below:
Period Selection - accounting time period
Using SEC 10K/10Q Data fields require financial accounting time period(s). The Summary Data, Historical

period is required.

 Telemet IQ Templates
To easily select frequently used data items (from the ‘Summary Data’, ‘SEC 10K/10Q Data’,
‘Historical Data on Date’, & ‘Historical Data Between Dates’ tabs), use a ‘Template’ to save
time.
Four templates are bundled in Telemet IQ for your convenience: Income Statement Report, Balance Sheet Report, Cash Flow Statement Report, & Ratios Report. These templates link financial data directly into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

o ‘Save As’ Button: Saves (overwrites) an existing template or creates a new template by

o ‘Open’ Button: Opens an existing Telemet IQ template file.
 Snap Data / Start At
The Snap Data box is a data refresh option that is ideal for very large spreadsheets that have thousands
of cells needing data. If the Snap data box is selected the fields can update manually by using a
“Resume Updates” / “Stop Updates” button.
It is best to use the ‘Snap Data’ check box if:
1) There are more than 1,000 Telemet IQ linked data cells
and/or
2) The requested data items change infrequently (such as quarterly financial statement data items,
company names, etc.) where a manual refresh once per quarter is sufficient.
Use the ‘Snap Data’ box to create a manual data refresh spreadsheet function.

A Snap data example: A cell Formula before selecting ‘Snap Data’ is shown below:

When the Options button is clicked the screen below opens.
• Quote Data:
o Using DDE: Telemet IQ can paste Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) formulas
(instead of RTD formulas) by checking the box ‘Using DDE’. This option is for
legacy applications - those clients that have previously built macros and links
using Telemet’s previous Microsoft Excel link called ‘MarketLink’.
‘MarketLink’ links (using DDE) are not as flexible as RTD links and do not have
as many field options.
• Other o Ticker with Cell Reference: Paste a ticker or a cell reference within the Telemet
IQ formula. The default is the box is checked. When checked, there is a cell
reference within the Telemet IQ formula – the cell contains a ticker and the data
refers to the ticker in the cell. Changing the cell ticker, changes all the data on the
spreadsheet that reference the cell. If the box is not checked, the data is fixed to a
ticker inside each cell and no cell reference is available.
o Use an IF Error Formula function: If a Telemet IQ formula result shows an
!VALUE error this check box will change the !VALUE result to show a blank cell
instead.
o Use the cells format that user defined before “Paste”
TelemetOrion.RTDServer formulas.
Pasting Data onto the spreadsheet
Once all selections are made, click the ‘Paste’ button (on the bottom right corner of the screen) and the
data will populate the spreadsheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
I am a long-time Telemet client and just upgraded Telemet Orion. Now when I open my Telemet IQ
spreadsheet why doesn’t it work anymore?
Telemet IQ links have been modified recently to better work with Telemet servers. Consequently,
one possible solution to get previous Telemet IQ links updated with current Telemet IQ links.
Previous Telemet IQ formula format: =RTD("telemet.iq",,"quote",[Cell containing
Ticker],"[Security Type]","[Data Field]")
 Current Telemet IQ formula format:
=RTD("telemetorion.rtdserver","","quote",[Cell containing Ticker],”[Data
Field]”,"[Security Type]")
o Open your spreadsheet that has previous Telemet IQ links, then open the Telemet IQ setup
screen (below) and click the “Convert to current spreadsheet to Telemet IQ 64/32” button at
the bottom of the Telemet IQ setup screen:
