Review of Future Tenses
Present Simple
• It can have a future meaning when used with timetables:
The train departs at 17.30.
Present continuous
• It is used with arranged plans where details are given:
I'm visiting my friends on Saturday.
Going to
• It is used with arranged plans where details are not given:
I'm going to visit my friends.
Will
• It is used with offers, promises, threats, requests and decisions made at the moment of speaking.
Will - Offers
Shall I open the window?
Will - Promises
If you can't come, I'll take it to you.
Will - threats
I'll tell them off.
Will - requests
Will you open the door for me?
Will - Shall
• Shall is used with I and we. Shall we go now?
• Will is used with the other pronouns.
Will you go now?
Future Perfect
• It is used to say that something will be finished by a definite moment:
Next Friday he'll have finished
his project.
Future Continuous
• It is used to say that something will be in progress in a moment.
Next Friday we'll be celebrating
your birthday
