Leiston SkateparkLeiston in Suffolk, another shining example of atown in the countryside, not far from the NorthSea, which has nothing for young people to do (orolder either).

There is a high crime rate among young people, leading to a ban on drinking of alcohol in publicplaces in the town. Among measures previouslyused to reduce the juvenille crime.

Councils have started youth clubs and similarassociations for young people, giving themsomewhere to go and something to do.

Now It seems one of the main things Councils do isbuild skateparks, however most of them turn out tobe Tin Toy ramps on Tarmac which not manypeople want to skate.

However they occasionally build something nice toskate, made out of concrete and this is a nice littleexample of that.

98 Ash Lever - BS Melon over Hip into half bowl.

Getting ThereTo get to Leiston you needto hit the A12 and turn offjust North of the Village ofYoxford if you are goingNorth. Then follow thisroad all the way until youreach Leiston. Theskatepark is on therecration green oppositethe Long Shop Museum.Postcode for Map:-IP16 4ES

Good Points:The coping on the ledgesis perfectly set into theconcrete. Some good lines!Bank to ledge feature, lotsof fun.Smooth surface.

Bad Points:Shame it’s not larger. Not too good for drainageand leaves from trees inAutumn. The benches around thepark need to be steeledged, as they havechipped.

Best Times:When the kids are atschool as it’s small andeasily crowded by kids onbikes.Evenings after kids onbikes bedtimes.

First off introduceyourself to the readersout there.Okay, my name’s ChrisPulman and I’m themanager of Slam CitySkates only store in Neal’sYard, Covent Garden. So how long has SlamCity existed now, andhow long have you beeninvolved in it?Slam has been around for20 years this yearalthough it hasn’t alwaysbeen here. The first storewas part of the RoughTrade store on TalbotRoad in West Londonthen they opened thestore in Covent Garden acouple years after that.I’ve been here now forabout six-and-a-halfyears.

Where’s the name SlamCity from?I have absolutely no idea,I think someone was oncrack that day... What’s it like havinglodgers under the floorboards (Rough Trade)?Rough Trade is probablyone of the best recordstores in town. The guysthat work there knowbetter than anyone when itcomes to any music that’sworth listening to. I thinkhaving that storeunderneath Slam isprobably one of the bestperks of the job to behonest with you. What’s in store for Slam, any collabs, videos etc?Slam video out this year Ireckon, the footage iscoming in quicker as theweather gets better. Wehave a shoe in

collaboration with Etniesas we’re both celebrating20 years this year. We’rereleasing limited clothingas the year goes onstarting with the star logofrom about fifteen yearsago which is out right now. What made you come toLondon from theValleys?Well, I had a slight detourvia Southsea for a coupleof years so I could go touniversity. Then I wasriding for Foundationthrough Slam and theyoffered me a job. I thoughtpacking boxes four days aweek at the warehouse, turned out it wasmanaging the store. I thinkI adapted to the situationquite well.

And then any thanks? Thanks to all the brandsthat we stock, thanks tothe British industry forgetting its balls out anddoing things properly, thedistributors that we havechosen to work withincluding Shiner, Faze7,Power, Dwindle, Revival,A4, Mad Dist. Thanks toall the riders and the staffthat have made this thegreat shop that it is today.-Chris Pulman.

Pixel SizeThis can be very useful fordoing work for websites asthey are measured in pixels. It can also be switched overto percent so you can scaleimages to 50%, 75 % etc.

ConstrainWith this checked when youchange the height of animage it will automaticallychange the width to keep theshape of the image.Unchecked it will stretch animage.

Resample ImageWith this checked it will keepthe resolution the samewhen you change the widthor height. However whenincreasing the size of animage it guesses the data tohelp it resize and doesn’tmake the quality better. With it unchecked you canchange the resolution and itwill change the width tomatch the resolution. So youcan workout how large youcan take a digital image, thatneeds to be at 300dpi ratherthan 72dpi.

Physical SizeThis is used to resize imagesto the width you want themwhen they are printed so ifyou had a frame that was a10 x 8 inch frame you couldsize the image to fit.ResolutionThis is how many dots persquare inch (dpi) there are, generally 72 for the web oron-screen, 150 for photoprints and newsprint, 300 formagazine and high res photoprints and 600 or above forline art drawings.
