March 2021 Revelations Spring is in the air (well, at least every other week), and there is new life at OGUMC! We give thanks to God that Covid numbers are down, and we have been able to resume some in-person ministries such as worship, activities for children and youth, Bible study, the women s and mens circle/clubs, etc. As we continue in this Lenten season, we hope that all of you will go at your own pace and return to in person events whenever the time is right for you and your own well-being. Worship will continue to be live-streamed through Youtube and through our NEW Facebook worship page. (See details elsewhere in this newsletter.) On Sunday mornings during Lent, we will be focusing together on the last 24 hours of the life of Jesus, from the last supper to the crucifixion, specifically as told by Mark 14-15. We usually do not spend sermon time on these passages of scripture because we go from Palm Sunday to Easter on Sundays. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday usually do not include sermons, and even if they did, there wouldnt be enough time to look at all of these passages in detail. I hope this Lenten focus will remind you of the depth of love that God has for you and will renew your commitment to follow the path of sacrificial servant-leadership that Jesus walked before us. With Lenten hope, Amy

INTERCESSORY PRAYER MINISTRY

Dear OGUMC Family,

Thank you so much for all your love, support, calls, food and prayers. The women of the church went the extra mile in providing my family with a meal. I felt the comfort and peace through your prayers. Words cannot express the heartfelt love during the loss of Judith.

And, thank you for the contribution to the Food Pantry in memory of Judith. She loved working in the Food Ministry, especially the Food Pantry.

I want to say thank you again for all the prayers and support that was given to her. We all will miss her until we see her again.

God Bless,

Woody Gammel Dear OGUMC,

Thank you for the cards, calls and prayers during my surgery and recovery. I am doing better and hope to be able to see all of you soon.

Your Friend in Christ,

Aubrey Shrader Dear Pastor Amy and Members of OGUMC,

My family and I would like to thank you for all that you have done. I don’t think there are enough words to describe how grateful we are for all the support and prayers. I have not been here long and I already feel like family.

Love and much Appreciation,

Francesca Williams, Irene Basley, Sean Allen

“Serving Christ through Our Service to Others!” OGUMC is the light to the community by serving Christ through different ministries in the church. We are one body of Christ, and we need YOU in 2021! Currently, OGUMC has 112 people (approximately 450 on roll) volunteering their time and energy in church ministries. Admin council would like to see this grow by January 1, 2022. This is NOT about volunteering but finding additional ways to grow spiritually. It goes back to

the Martha/Mary story in the Bible (Luke 10). We know that the work has to get done, but the main priority, for you as God’s disciple, is to keep His word your first priority. OGUMC is committed to helping you find ways to grow --- serving others and/or growing your faith through small groups.

The next coming months, Jimmy Carpenter and the discipleship committee will be reaching out to church members about ways to continue spiritual growth. If that growth involves your time, he will have short-term and long-term service opportunities within OGUMC ministries. May God bless you in 2021!

Love and Service,

Erin Dornan, admin council chair

Hospitality Creed

Since hospitality means “love of a guest” and since Jesus said, “I was a stranger and you took me in,” I will always remember to…

Welcome others, especially the guest,

as though I was welcoming Jesus.

Receive no one merely as a stranger,

but rather as a dear friend.

Demonstrate through every means

available that my new friends are valued and an integral part of our fellowship.

I gladly join with others at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in affirming hospitality as an integral part of the Christian witness.

“Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8
