Proclaiming God’s Love, Together in Christ

L L A M A D O A N U A L D I O C E S A N O

Annual Diocesan Appeal 2017 “Proclaiming God’s Love, Together in Christ” A collabora-tion in which each parish contrib-utes toward the support of minis-tries and services rendered by our Diocese of San Jose. The 2017 Cathedral parish goal is $133,000. Each participating household helps our parish reach its goal toward funding education, training and services to the faithful of our Dio-cese. If we achieve 100% partici-pation, we will not only match but surpass last year’s success!

Here are some of the ministries and services that your ADA gift funds:

Evangelization and Catechetical Ministry, the Institute for Leader-ship in Ministry, Social Ministry, Hispanic Apostolate, Worship, the Office for Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults, Priests, Re-tired priests, Deacons, Seminary studies and housing, Vocations, Tribunal, Operational Services at the Chancery such as Human Re-sources, Facilities, Archives, Stew-ardship and Development and Communications Services.

The Cathedral Basilica is also a direct beneficiary of ADA support.

Please give some thought to a pledge this week. A pledge does not need to be fulfilled immediately but during the course of the year if this is more convenient for you.

View an inspirational ADA video at www.stjosephcathedral.org. Just click on the GIVING tab and then Annual Diocesan Appeal.

La Diócesis de San José

Office of the Bishop

February 14, 2017 It is not an overstatement to say that the majority of Amer-icans are descendants of immigrants or refugees. Indeed, many of our fellow citizens were once immigrants. The story of the United States is a tale of welcome and of new hope. Whether for those from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, or the Americas, this nation has been a bright-burning beacon and an invitation to a better life in which the gifts of God can be widely shared. Today is no differ-ent. Writing in response to recent developments, Bishop Joe S. Vásquez of Austin, Texas, and Chair of the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Migration stated: "We respect the rule of law and the American judicial process. We remain stead-fast in our commitment to resettling refugees and all those fleeing persecution. At this time, we remain particularly dedicated to ensuring that affected refugee and immigrant families are not separated and that they continue to be welcomed to our country. We will continue to welcome the newcomer as it is a vital part of our Catholic faith and an enduring element of our American values and tradi-tion." San Jose and the greater Bay Area have historically wel-comed various waves of refugees, and the Church has been a willing partner in many of these efforts. This should not change. We recommit ourselves to this form of living out of the Gospel, the teaching of the Lord Jesus to welcome the stranger, for in doing so, we welcome the Lord Himself. With every best wish and kind regard, I remain, Sincerely yours,

Patrick J. McGrath Bishop of San Jose

Atentamente suyo,
