Principles
If you have been half fair:some of you will have said yes,
some no … and everybody will have been able to see
‘points for’ and ‘points against’.

Indeed, for every important question you will face
for the rest of your life:
•Should I stay on to sixth form?•Shall I go to that university?•Do I want that job?•Shall I marry this person?
… there will be no easy ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer.Click to

Principles
There will be ‘points for’
and ‘points against’
and you will have to make your decision
on the balance of argument.

The mark scheme says that this is how you are going to earn the 12 marks for this question:
•Up to 3 marks for basic description/factual knowledge.
•You can score 3 more marks for identifying (and describing)
relevant points, for or against the suggestion.
•You can earn a further 4 marks if you explain how the
points you are making are for or against the case.
•Finally, you will score full marks if you organise your
explained points into a ‘for-or-against-judgement’
argument.
Remember that you already know how to answer an ‘explain’ question!
