Our theme for this year is “The Church That Serves the Lord With Gladness.” Psalm 100:2. Our mission is to “SERVE THE LORD.” First, we will serve the Lord with the right attitude. Our attitude will be one of gladness and not sadness. When we are glad that means that we are happy. So, as we serve, we will be glad to evangelize. We will be glad to do missions. We will be glad to worship. We will be glad to grow through Christian Education. We will be glad to give and be good stewards. We will be glad to fellowship with one another. We will be glad to make disciples. We will be glad to be witnesses for our God. Secondly, we will be glad to serve the Lord in the right spirit. The right spirit is the Holy Spirit. As Christians, the world should be able to see the Holy Spirit in our speech and deeds. They should see the fruit of the spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23). They should see the gifts of the Spirit working through us. Paul says in 1st Corinthians 12:7-11, “7 The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all. 8 To some people the Spirit gives a mes-sage of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge. 9 To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing. 10 To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages. 11 All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.” Finally, when we serve the Lord with gladness, we will experience the favor of God. We will see growth and prosperity in our families, church, and community. The world will stop and take notice that we have been with Jesus. Our churches and homes will be places of joy, peace, love, and excitement. So, let’s serve the Lord with gladness this year and watch Him change our lives.
