EQUIPPED WITH A HYDROSTATIC VALVE

The Hammar Inflator is equipped with a hydrostatic valve that gives a unique protection against inadvertent inflation in case of rain, spray, splash or humidity.

Since the Hammar Inflator need both pressure and water to activate, it cannot be activated by pressure cabins in aircrafts, but you must check with your airline if they allow inflatable lifejackets onboard.

SINGLE POINT INDICATOR CLEARLY SHOWS THE STATUS OF YOUR HAMMAR INFLATOR

When the single point indicator is green (• ) the inflator is ready for use. After activation (automatic or manual) the indicator turns red (• ) and the inflator must be replaced. Always check the single point indicator before using your lifejacket.

PROTECTED GAS CYLINDER

The gas cylinder is located inside the inflatable bladder and therefore protected from the atmosphere, corrosive effects of salt water and reduces snagging hazards. The Hammar Inflator system is suitable to operate in cold conditions due to the cylinder is located inside the bladder and moisture cannot get in to form ice. Furthermore the CO2 does not have to enter through a valve to inflate the lifejacket, therefore the risk for icing is minimized.

SERVICE / MAINTENANCE

The Hammar Inflator needs no service or maintenance. Just ensure that the inflator is replaced after five years expiry date or when the single point indicator is red.

REARMING KIT

Ask your dealer for the rearming kit suitable for your lifejacket.

FOR USERS WHO DEMAND SUPERIOR EQUIPMENT

Despite its small size the inflator is of huge importance for your lifejacket’s performance. The inflator’s mission is topuncture the gas cylinder and give your lifejacket full buoyancy when you need it. The automatic Hammar Inflator with manual backup has some unique features designed to improve your safety even during the roughest conditions at sea.

INFLATES ONLY WHEN NEEDED

When a pressure difference of about 10 cm is obtained, the inflator activates automatically. If you are wearing a survival suit or other clothing that increases your buoyancy, you might want to activate the lifejacket before the pressure difference of about 10 cm is reached. Activate the inflator manually by using the pull-tab. Make sure you know how to reach the pull-tab on your lifejacket.

HOW DOES THE HAMMAR INFLATOR WORK?

The Hammar Inflator activates automatically when submerged and a pressure difference of about 10 cm is reached. The lifejacket will reach full buoyancy within seconds and it is designed to ensure fast and reliable activation even in the most extreme weather conditions. It is important that you don the lifejacket according to the manufacturer’s instructions in order to secure the function of the lifejacket and for automatic inflation.

PULL TAB TO INFLATE

Automatic activation Automatic activation Manual activation required

Manual activation

When the Hammar Inflator is exposed to sufficient pressure it will open the hydrostatic valve, allowing the water to meet the water sensitive element and start the activation. The Hammar Inflator uses the pressure difference between the internal and the external pressure of the inflator. The external pressure is determined by the water depth of the inflator. The internal pressure is determined by the trapped air bubble in the lifejacket bladder. There is always some air left even in a well vacuumed lifejacket bladder.

When the lifejacket enters the water, the air bubble inside the bladder will move to the highest point of the bladder. If some part of the lifejacket is above the water the air bubble will move to that area, or if the whole lifejacket is submerged the air bubble will move to the highest point, closest to the surface.

The pressure difference is determined by the depth of the inflator and the highest point where the trapped air bubbles have gathered. If this distance is more than 10 cm, the inflator will activate and the lifejacket inflates.

BEFORE YOU START REARMING

Make sure you have a smooth, flat and dry work surface.

1. Insert the opening key between the black locking ring and the yellow cap and turn the key counter clock-wise. The black locking ring will now turn counter clock-wise.

2. Hold the yellow cap with one hand and continue to turn the black locking ring counter clock-wise with the other hand until it stops.

3. Lift off the yellow cap. Remove the old inflator body and gas cylinder from inside the bladder and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.

4. Check the rearming kit. Ensure that all four points are met before you continue.

• The single point indicator on the inflator cap is green. (• )

• The indicator on the black body is green. (• )

• The expiry date on the inflator cap is within limit.

• The size of the gas cylinder is correct.

Do not assemble any cap or body that does not meet these requirements.

5. Insert the inflator body with the gas cylinder pointing upwards in the bladder. Let the sealing ring rest on the rounded sealing surface on the body.

6. Position the replacement cap with the hydrostatic valve pointing to the right, 90° relative the gas cylinder and put the cap in place at the body.

7. Press firmly on the inflator cap and turn the black locking ring clockwise into the locked position.

FINAL CHECK

• Pull the cap to make sure it has locked on the inflator body properly.

• Check that the locking ring is properly locked and cannot be turned counter clockwise by hand.

• Inflate the lifejacket through the oral tube and check that it stays inflated at least over night.

PACKING

Before packing, deflate the lifejacket through the oral tube. Make sure to press out all residual air from the bladder so it can be folded properly according to the manufacturer’s instruction. Let the lifejacket dry before packing.
