October is Respect Life Month

Join us every Friday in October a er 8:30am Mass as we pray the Rosary for the Protection and the Sanctity of Life, from conception to the natural end of life.

Save the Date: November 10

Comforter Companion Workshop

Topics include pastor’s perspective of care, sacredness of human life and how to apply Catholic moral & ethical principles, review of Advance Directive & POLST forms, important prayers for those su! ering and mourning, grace of receiving blessings and the sacraments of the Eucharist of the Sick, helpful medical, spiritual and practical information, funeral planning, creation of a memory book to share a life story and bereavement support.

GOSPEL MEDITATION

Christian author C.S. Lewis once wrote that Christianity is not so much about being nice people but in being "new men." We see this contrast in today's Gospel. "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus # rst answers in the predictable way. Follow the commandments! "Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth." Perhaps for some of us it's easy to answer this way. "I'm a good person!" he seems to reply. Does he truly follow all the commandments he professes to follow? Does he -- in word and deed -- check o! all the boxes of the moral law? Perhaps. Whether he's being honest or fudging the truth, Jesus accepts his answer at face value with compassion. "Jesus, looking at him, loved him."

But he's not done yet! Jesus wants to remind us that this attitude alone is not enough. "Go, sell what you have ... then come, follow me." Jesus' invitation to the young man is radical. Abandon everything that gives you any sense of security. Give it all up for an unknown future with a wandering preacher.

% e Christian life is not easy. "How hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!" It's easier, Jesus says, for a gigantic camel to squeeze itself through a tiny needle's eye. But the God of the universe creates out of nothing, breaks the bars of hell, and raises the dead to life. Is a needle's eye really such an obstacle? Jesus' invitation is always bigger than our own limitations. % is week, what do we need to o! er up? How is Jesus inviting us to follow him?

Last week our students went on a family eld trip to the pumpkin patch. We try to incorporate at least two eld trips into our school year so that our students have multiple opportunities to explore the world around them and to make meaningful connections. Field trips are one of the best tools that we can use to provide every student with real-world experiences. For more information on RCPK, visit resurrectioncatholicpreschool.com or email Tresa Rast at [email protected].

Veni, Sancte Spiritus!Join us for an Adult Faith Formation series on the workings of the Holy Spirit with guest speaker Michael Reinbold. Sessions will be held between the 8:30 and 11:00 o’clock Masses in Room 103 of the Moisant Center. All are invited!

Monthly Stewardship Update

Sharing Time: St. Vincent de Paul – “" e 33 members of Resurrection Conference of St. Vincent de Paul volunteered 5,020 hours to serve the poor of our community. We provided food, nancial assistance and support to become witnesses for God’s grace as demonstrated by the support provided by our parishioners.”

Sharing Talent: Quilters – “Resurrections Quilters serve the parish and community with gi# s of handmade quilts, which are something a child going into foster care can hold onto, something to brighten the room of a family in a shelter and something that reminds our own senior parishioners that they are still a part of a community.”

Sharing Treasure: Our parish completed our second full year of Stewardship with strong positive nancials. " is enabled us to not only provide strong support for our ministries and the growth of the preschool and faith formation programs, but also to pay in full for many improvements.

Do you have a longing to know God?

Becoming a Catholic is a journey of faith and involves more than adopting a set of beliefs and following certain practices. It is more than joining an institution. Becoming Catholic means opening one’s life to the love and mystery of God. It means growing in faith and wanting to be a follower of Christ. Come join the RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults - and be part of an exciting process of faith formation for adults and youth. Come, explore our faith in Jesus and learn about the teachings of the Catholic Church. Our next session is " ursday, October 18th at 7:00 PM, in the Fireside Room.

" e essence of our Catholic faith is belief in Jesus Christ - his life, his death and resurrection, and his promise of eternal life. Catholics experience the presence of Christ in the Eucharist (Communion), in Scripture, in prayer, in the community of believers and in service to the poor. For more information, contact Anna Arnesen Mosey at

[email protected].

service

October 14 - Twenty-Eighth

Sunday in Ordinary Time:

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “Go, sell what you have, and give to the

poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then, come follow me.”

Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good

stewards of God's varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

TECH-SAVVY VOLUNTEER NEEDED

We are looking for a tech-savvy person to help us provide an online option for our Commitment Sunday Cards. ! is volunteer would provide their expertise and labor in taking our physical (hard-copy) commitment card and making it into an online survey that can then produce a spreadsheet for us. Ideally, the online survey would have a mobile phone compatible option, and needs to be completed by the end of October. Please go to Volunteer Connections on the parish website to sign up.

Co! ee and Donuts Host Needed

We are searching for a family or individuals that would like to host Co% ee and Donuts on the # $ h Sunday of the month. If you are interested please contact Irene Jones at [email protected].

We are now coming to the election season and in this # nal hour, I want to write to encourage you to vote "Yes" on Measure 106 to limit tax payer funding of abortions.

Archbishop Alexander Sample, Bishop Liam Cary and Bishop Peter Smith all fully support this measure and encourage all Catholics to seize this opportunity to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to vote with informed consciences and so help build up the Kingdom of God in our State of Oregon. For years our bishops have given their support to the many women and men who put their faith into action by gathering signatures and have done the heavy li$ ing.

Now it falls to each and every voter to boldly choose the Gospel of Life to build a culture of life in Oregon My dear brothers and sisters, with Hope in God and that His plan is good for us, all my encouragement goes to you. I think of the everyday saints we have always relied on to bear witness to Jesus Christ. Without their choice to engage the world with faith, the culture of death spreads. I think of you as the saints we need now in this vote on Measure 106. ….(excerpt from full letter )
