It all started when I was playing air guitar to a country record in my parent’s bedroom with this:
Dad: “Son, would you like to really learn how to play guitar?”
Me: “Yeah I would, Dad!”
At 12 years old I started taking guitar lessons at a local music store called Southern Music.
A couple of years later (circa 1994), I engineered my first guitar solo overdub to Boston’s‘More Than A Feeling’ on the very latest of multi-track recording gear…
Dad’s karaoke machine.
A couple of years after that, I attended a Tascam recording workshop at another local music store.Ironically, this man enlightened me to the wonders of multi-track recording at home.
“You can do that at home!?”
I saved $400 as fast as I could and purchased myfirst multi-track recorder: Tascam Portastudio 424mkII

This new hobby turned into countless hours of experimenting and learning into all hours of thenight. Over the years, I progressed into more capable systems and branched out into video editing.

During this time of learning the art of recording, I was simultaneously learning the art of live soundat my home church. Unauthorized cable disconnecting and reconfiguring proved to be a great launchpad to understanding the components of live sound equipment.
My learning and experimentation with live sound took me through many different analog mixers…
…all the way up to the modern mixing surfaces of today.
Also, while learning the art of recording and live sound, I continued to explore the world of possibilitiesavailable for my guitar, particularly in the pedal and effects unit category.

I lose count, but I think to-date I’ve had close to 20 completely different guitar rigs.
And of course, my musical influences were important to my progress on the guitar as well asrecording and song writing:

I knew that all of these skills and elements tied together and I knew that music had to be a part of whatever job or career I pursued.
In 1999, I enrolled in the Music Recording Technology program at J. S. Reynolds to further my art.
A large portion of the program was held at a local recording studio. I learned many greatrecording techniques, utilized a vast array of equipment, and gained understanding of how to run a recording session.
Year 2000…During the recording technology program, I left my job at a local grocer and I started working forMars Music at their new store in Richmond.
I worked in the technology sales department where I sold recording, live sound, and DJ and lighting equipment.
In 2002, I served in Vienna, Austria for 6 months as a volunteer through the International Mission Board.I developed multimedia materials for our mission teams, such as virtual video prayer walks, prayer guides,brochures, websites, etc…
My love for music and sound only grew in a music-culture rich place like Vienna.
After Austria, I returned to Mars Music just in time for them to go bankrupt and close up shop. I beganto work at a Forex company called CFG. Among multiple media-related responsibilities that includedprinting, web design, and the like, I was given the opportunity to design and oversee the building of a recording studio: Sound Factory Studios.
While working at CFG, in 2006 I also accepted a part-time position with my church to oversee the soundteam. In addition to being the lead sound technician, I was tasked with building the volunteer base, trainingvolunteers, scheduling, maintaining the sound system, and identifying and installing new sound equipment.
In March 2007, I left CFG for a part-time job at the International Mission Board (IMB) as an A/V Technician. It soon became a full-time job, stretching my skillset into IT. This is my current full-time job today.
As A/V & Desktop Technician II, I have enjoyed gaining a plethora of experience…

Run Front-of-House sound for professional level bands
Implemented computer security for ourpersonnel worldwide
In July 2010, I started my own small business called moreofYOUinthemonitor LLC. With moreofYOU, Ievaluate church sound systems, make recommendations, and sell and install digital mixing systems,as well as personal monitor systems.
I am currently transitioning my company from sales and installations to providing training for sound teams.
From 2011 to the present, I have been also working part-time at Gayton Baptist Church as Media Associate.As Media Associate, I work with all ministries of the church to help them develop their image, audio, andvideo content for their ministries.
During a recent capital campaign at Gayton Baptist, we produced a series of videos of our members’personal stories to promote the campaign among the congregation and community.

Another major even every year at Gayton Baptist is Jazz Nativity. I serve on the leadership team for theevent and provide all media development for the event.

A major part of my responsibility for Jazz Nativity is the multi-track audio recording, filming, editingand mixing of the event.
Mic’ing instruments and recording over 32 channels of live audio
Manning a camera and managing the filming of the event
Mix and master the audio recording, edit the film and sync with the recorded audio

I’m confident that the abridged work and experience history shown in this presentation displays that myexperience and knowledge was built from the ground up; earned through a lot of time and hard work.
