The rides have been well attended and there have been different members
attending the varied offerings on the ride calendar, indicating a higher level of
membership participation. There are additional articles in the magazine
describing two new activities, the “movie night” and the “dirt day” and
hopefully these will be well supported and can become a feature of future ride
calendars. There is also a busy round of shows and rallies for those who enjoy
these activities and the entry forms are at the end of the magazine.
The AGM has come and gone with some forty members in attendance. Geoff’s
presidential report described the busy last year and the growth of the club and
moved a round of congratulations for the outgoing committee which was
carried by acclamation. In a similar vein, outgoing Secretary Jenni referred to
the growth of the club and the new structures for dealing with the increased
membership, while Treasurer Glenn noted the club was in a healthy financial
situation. In the election the incumbents were basically returned to their
positions with Peter Tarabay (Secretary) and Lara Bechaz (Vice-Captain) joining
the committee. The two positions for which committee members had
completed their three years of service, were the secretary replaced by Peter
Tarabay, and the editor, who was not replaced. Election for the editor’s position
will be referred to the next general meeting.

Out and About
Ebor Ride, 30th June, 2019.
As often is the case, there seems to be a fair bit of confusion at Bellingen at the
meeting spot opposite the Purple Carrot. There are about 20 plus bikes
(including Graham’s Rudge Ulster, just back on the road after having the four
valve head given a good once over), but it is nearly impossible to sort out who
wants to go for a ride and who wants to go for coffee. Eventually, it sorts out
and about a dozen head up the mountain for morning tea at Tyringham, while
the others went back to the Butter Factory.
The ride to Tyringham is outstanding with relatively warm conditions and the
country truly in bloom, looking the best it has in months. “Janet’s café” supplied
us with the basics and we
enjoyed a lay on the grass
in the sunshine and were
joined by life member,
Pete Richmond, who
brought humour and
stories from Dorrigo in the
good old days. Pete then
lead the mixed bunch of
Dan’s and Matt’s Guzzis,
Pete’s Triumph, Ward’s
BSA outfit (the A10 gives a
competitive edge not
seen on the M21 outfit!),
John’s Beema and a
trifecta of V-Stroms (Jenni, Paul and Nick), on an exhilarating ride to Ebor,
where we regroup with Gary (Triumph), Steve (Norton) and Ross (Harley) and
partook of a hearty pub lunch regaled with stories of John doing burn outs on a
Ducati inside the bar of the Long Flat Hotel in a time long, long ago! The sun
kept shining for the trip down the mountain.

Ulong Cafe, 3rd July, 2019.
A beautiful day for a ride, a fact which was not lost on the twenty or so who made the trip up the mountain. The Coffs riders swelled the ranks of the already gathered locals for an enjoyable cuppa and a bite to eat.

Tamworth Rally, 19th- 21st July, 2019.
I entered 2 bikes, BMW R26 and Ariel Square Four.
The R26 would do the Friday and Sunday short rides and the Square 4 long Saturday ride. The Squariel was already at Tamworth, where friend Rod Hemming had been trying to sort out rough running for me. He wanted me to ride it on Friday as a test, so I headed off to Paradise Park, (the rally base) Soon realised some rough running was still evident but it’d be OK for the ride. None -the-less I rang Rod to let him know. He said bring it back and take the R26 so he could have another go at it while warm. I’d now miss the start and didn’t know the rally route, but Dave Smith, one of the organizers, said he’d follow me to Rods, then guide me and the R26 to the ride catch-up stop. Dave was on an M20 BSA, not noted for sporting
John, below zero in Bendemeer performance, but it was somewhat faster than the R26! I had to almost flog the tail shaft out of R26 to keep Dave in sight. We joined the rally ride at Moonbi just as they were leaving. This section of the ride followed a winding rural road to Limbri where afternoon tea in a park was available. The return was via the same road to Kootingal where things got a bit confused as some peeled off to the right and others continued straight on, but I knew straight on would take me to Nemingha where Rod lived so that’s the way I went.
Saturday came up cold as always in July here but it was clear, sunny and calm, an ideal ride day. R26 is quite pleasant to ride if one rides at the speed it Gary guarding the Honda 4’s in the Sun wants to travel at. But that isn’t very fast and as today was 200kms and I wanted to get to lunch before all the food had gone, so I would be on the
Squariel, running rough or not. There were around 80 starters and a good variety as well. The route was out to the north west of Tamworth via roads that I wasn’t familiar with but they were good riding. Somerton on the Oxley highway was morning tea. Here I caught up with other Coffs riders, Nick, Gary, the two Johns, Steve and Bob. From Somerton we had a short dash along the Oxley to the Keepit Dam turn-off, then via more great riding roads to Manilla. Most of this stage I kept company with a pair of pre WW2 singles ripping along in the 55-60mph range. One was a Rudge. There was a catch-up stop at Manilla, and then we headed back to Tamworth for lunch at the Riding for the Disabled establishment. There was an optional 50km ride after lunch but I headed back to Rod. The presentation dinner was at Paradise Park. The meal was good and I even managed to get 2 desserts! John Munson & Gary McLeod left straight after the meal & before the raffles. Gave me their tickets, and I won 3 prizes, thanks fellas!
Sunday was fine again with just some high cloud. Today’s ride was to Chaffy dam via a series of back roads. This route has been used on previous rallies so was familiar to me. On the R26 again, I’d decided to follow the pack at the speed the R26 liked and had a nice sedate ride. There’s not much water in Chaffy dam! Rob’s Squariel at the Rally
This was a good rally. Weather was great, (though sub-zero in the mornings!!),
well chosen routes made for good riding and the organization was excellent.
Sorry you didn’t get to join us Margaret.

Concours d’Elegance, 27th July, 2019.
The day was a big success with
large numbers of public admiring
our display of old bikes. The
weather was also perfect if a little
bit cool early on and I think there
were about 20 or so bikes
displayed, including two 1920's
Waratahs which were
particularly tidy. The “Treasurer’s
Shout” for lunch was appreciated
Eddie’s crowd pleasing Velocette. by attendees. I stayed with the
display so didn't go off for lunch, but I did enjoy the egg & bacon rolls for sale at
the Festival, along with
sausage sangers, locally
homemade meat pies, and
many other tasty treats. The
Timber Festival provides a
great opportunity for the
general public to view our
bikes, and from our point of
view, there was lots to look at
while our bikes were on
display. There were heaps of
stalls selling everything
imaginary, along with displays of vintage cars, farm machinery, old tractors,
snake show and wood chop.
The winner of the much prized Concours d’Elegance trophy (Many thanks to
Graeme for making an additional
Stanley Phelp’s Trophy ) was Gavin’s
1973 360 RT3 Yamaha and the
Shannon’s award went to one of the
resplendent Waratahs.

Sculptures in the Gaol, 4th August, 2019.
There was a good turn out on a fine weather Sunday for the ride down to Trial Bay Goal and the annual Sculptures in the Goal. The Coffs crowd was a mixed collection of bikes with Triumphs, Harleys, a couple of Ducatis, a Norton, a Virago, a scooter, at least one BMW, a Kawasaki, a V-strom, a pair of Moto Guzzis, and assorted other bikes. They joined a throng of bikes
from other clubs, including Natureland, Port Macquarie and Taree with nearly 70 bikes in total. There was also a good collection of classic cars from the local areas on display. As always there was an unusual and very clever eclectic collection of
sculptures and other art works. Many of our members left to go to the Country Club for lunch or headed home, but for those who stayed there was good food and music, both served up in a magnificent setting.

Morning Tea at Glenn’s , 6th August, 2019.
The Urunga and Bellingen members arrived first, followed by the contingent from Coffs to bring numbers up to about 20. Host Glenn did a grand job of feeding everyone, but eventually collapsed in his
chair amazed at the amount of food eaten. Morning teas, another good reason to enjoy a ride and the glorious sunshine.
Four Types of New and Different Stuff
Movie Night
A “movie night” has been organised by members Chris and Ian and will be at
6.30pm at the Sawtell
Cinema on 5th
September, 2019. The
event is open to
members and their
families and friends. The
programme will be a
short documentary, “Up
the Mountain”, followed
by intermission, then the John Britten and his “Super Bike”
main feature “One Man’s Dream, The John Britten Story” which contains
additional footage not available on video.
Tickets will be $10 and can be pre-purchased by contacting Chris on 0429-667-
048 or purchased at the door.
Dirt Day
A training day for budding and experience dirt riders has been organised by
Chris at Dan’s place, 60 Grandis Road (Off Bonville Station Road) from 10.00am
to 4.00pm on Sunday, 27th October. You can bring your own bike or there will
be some spare dirt bikes
available on the day. It is not
intended to be a
competitive event, rather a
social event where
attendees can learn and
practice some basic dirt
skills. You can ride your own
bike to the event if it is on
club plates as it is a “club
sanctioned” event or come
with a trailer or ute as there is plenty of parking. There will be a BBQ available
so bring some food and snacks to share with others and enjoy a meal together.
For further information contact Chris on 0429-667-048 and remember to bring
your riding gear!

Stuarts Point Men’s Shed
Calling All Motorcycle Riders & Two or Three -Wheel Enthusiasts –
Stuarts Point Men’s Shed invites everyone (not just riders) to a motorcycle show
and lunch at Stuarts Point Workers Club on September 8, 2019 for their Men’s
Shed Fundraiser. Organisers expect a virtual rolling museum of old and new
motorcycles to educate and amaze you and your family. Some of these
machines can be over 100 years old and in original or restored condition, they
are incredible.
As you can see in the
photos of last year’s
event, some of the finest
machines in our region
could make an
appearance on the day.
Some restored to
“Showroom Condition”
and other directly from
the showroom.
The program includes; barbeque lunches, raffles, live musical entertainment
and two major Bike Show prizes.
Prizes will be awarded to winners of two only divisions, “Most Popular Old
Motorcycle” being any roadworthy motorcycle or scooter thirty years or older,
and “Most Popular Modern Motorcycle” being any roadworthy motorcycle or
scooter not yet thirty years old. Machines may be trailered to the event but
must be “road legal” with public or historic number plates. There is plenty of
room for trailer parking.
Judging and voting in each category will be done by the public, each vote being
one gold coin placed into a ballot box officially attached to nominated
motorcycles. Entrants are encouraged to juggle, sing, tap-dance or tell jokes to
win votes for their machines. There’s no limit to how much enticement and
encouragement used to gain votes. The nomination fees ($4/machine) and all
monies raised by voting will go directly to support the Stuarts Point Men’s Shed
and their workshop.
The competition nominations
will open at 9am, voting will
start at noon and run until
1pm. The prize winners will be
announced at around 2pm.
Men’s Sheds across the
country are providing
community support services
to their members and
communities. These services
include skills training, community maintenance and cleaning services, workshop
access for individuals, recycling, reuse and repair services, social networking and
individual care. They also provide a good laugh over a hot cuppa and biscuits for
members and visitors at regular morning tea sessions.
Be sure to bring along your appetite, Men’s Shed Chefs will be turning out
plenty of barbeque treats, inside the club the Chinese Restaurant will be serving
as well.
Again, the live music will be supplied by “The Little Ripper Band” beginning at
11: am. These guys know just about every tune ever written so be sure to
request or dedicate a tune on the day.

Good attendance at club events and meetings and with attendance growing.
We have tried a few different ideas such to mix things up a little such as barefoot bowls, movie night, music and the rally and discovered that one of our members Robert ‘Travolta’ Popplewell has some hidden talents. Rally was particularly good this year.
Thank you to all club members for your participation in the club meetings, rides and extra-curricular events.

A huge to thank you to all committee members for being a wonderful bunch of people to work with. Your support has been appreciated.
2018/19 has been a busy year with the increase in memberships and enquiries(numbers to be confirmed).
As always, this role sees a flurry of activity at rally time – but it is always well worth it.
Administratively, the club is running smoothly, particularly with the great job that Gav is doing in the role of Membership Officer. Thank you.
The ethos and comradery of the club and its members is positive and supportive with no major ructions during the year. It is a great club to be a part of and I have really enjoyed my time as Secretary. Thanks to everyone.
The Constitutions needs to be reviewed to ensure that the Purpose /Intent is still current and meeting the needs of the Club, as does the wording of the paragraph for Life Membership. This needs some further clarification.

Natureland’s Hat Head Rally 1st – 3rd November, 2019
Hi Fellow Riders/ Rally Entrants We are just sending a quick update on changes that have been made to this year’s Rally, as many of you know we have been having a few problems with the catering over the last few years. This year we are using this as a transitioning year so yes the Rally is still based at Hat Head so people who have booked their accommodation already will not have to look at re-booking. The rides will be leaving from Hat Head as per usual. Next year the Rally is moving and will be based at SWR. I will be sending information on Accommodation venues with Phone number so you can look at booking within the area. This year we are going to hold our Friday Night meet & greet at SWR Country Club and yes we will be doing the BBQ so it will be good having our Rissoles and Liver again. Saturday & Sunday breakfasts will be at Hat Head shelter shed within the Camping Grounds of the Caravan Park as well as Sunday brunch. Saturday Night the Dinner will be at SWR Country Club and it is going to be a Buffet and will include Sweets, Tea and Coffee. If there is any interest we will look at providing a Bus service at a minimal cost to users. We don’t want to lose any of you, you are what makes our Rally great so please come and join us in our new venture. Hoping you will be attending
Yours Sincerely
Kim & Yvonne Avery
Rally Secretary.
