[Restaurant Review] June - July 11MoMo Café | Cour tyard by Mar r io t t | Patong, Kamala , Sur in
Restaurant Preview 24
• MoMo Café is a trendy yet relaxed restaurant for all-day dining where everyone in the family can enjoy great value. The restaurant has three branches across the island located at Patong, Kamala and Surin – under Courtyard by Marriott. Pop into any one of them and you will find great cuisine.
• From the moment you step inside, the restaurant awakens your appetite with red, orange and brown warm tones matched well with tropical style furnishings and décor. An open kitchen reveals a classic wood-burning pizza oven and a live cooking scene where you can watch your meal being prepared.
• MoMo Café serves a concise selection of popular international dishes and local favorites including salad, pasta, sandwiches, pizza, steak and much more.
• Recommended dishes include the flavorful seafood starter Poached Prawn with pomelo, avocado, tomato and vinaigrette dressing. Be sure to also try the crispy, tender and aromatic Wood Roasted Half Chicken. Meanwhile, the imported Char Grilled Australian Beef Tenderloin goes with a glass of classic red wine. You can also just keep it simple with a fresh Pepperoni Pizza right from the traditional oven.
• Thai dishes are also delicious here and include choices like Gaeng Kiew Waan Gai (chicken coconut milk green curry) and Pla Nueng Manow (steamed fillet of sea bass finished with chili lime sauce).
• The kids menu offers some nice meals for the little ones like ‘Chicken Little’, ‘Superman’ and ‘Mario and Luigi’. Save room for the Marriott’s signature apple pie served with vanilla ice cream! Another yummy dessert is the mango with sticky rice – a Thai tropical delight.
• Illy coffee at MoMo 2 Go is a beautiful brew all coffee drinkers can appreciate. A great cup of coffee can brighten your whole day and we recommend a little dose of ‘illy crema’ with it. Make sure you try the freshly baked pastries and desserts, homemade sandwiches and salads. MoMo 2 Go also offers a range of goods and products including snacks, fresh fruits and souvenirs for those in a hurry.
• At MoMo Cafe in Kamala Beach, you can find a special waffle with fruit compote priced at 75 baht; while the ‘MoMo set’ with a choice of smoothie or coffee and a slice of cake for 195 baht is the special at Surin. Check your favorite branch for upcoming promotions.

• Burasari Resort Patong has revolutionized healthy eating. Trying to eat right while traveling without compromising taste can be a challenge. Naughty Radish Restaurant promises to surprise you with a whole new approach to healthy fare.
• Located just a few minutes from Patong Beach Road, the open-air restaurant offers a fresh, white interior with a casual chic sensation. This is an ideal place for a soul boost. Open from 11am till 9pm, Naughty Radish is ready to treat you with a variety of fruit blend smoothies.
• If you’re looking for a beverage to quench your thirst and stay hydrated, I strongly recommend their detox special. The combination of mango, kiwi, pineapple and mint leaves is exquisite! The secret here is that every fresh juice is honey-sweetened for flavor and health.
• The highlight of Naughty Radish is their wide selection of ingredients for custom salads with over twenty dressings. For those folks who don’t want to make too many decisions, just look at the array of recommended salads.
• Massaman Chicken is a great salad for curry lovers. Greens topped with sliced chicken served with famous Thai curry dressing make this a favorite of many customers. The curry adds an abundance of Asian spices from cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg combined with the sweetness of roasted peanuts. This dressing truly gives the richness of Thai flavor.
• Another salad that you can’t miss is the Spicy Japanese, featuring light ingredients with the natural fragrance of sesame dressing. The fresh spinach leaves heavily dressed with sliced beef and mango are unforgettable!
Of course, we can’t forget to mention that every salad order is served with the soup of the day. Freshly made each morning, the soup turns your salad into a complete meal. The restaurant also offers excellent grilled dishes and healthy pasta dishes for something more filling.
• Burasari is also home to Kantok Restaurant, offering Royal Thai cuisine. Indoor and outdoor sections surrounded with lush green trees keep you hidden away from the busiest beach of the island. There’s a special discount at lunch as well as a special set menu. The signature dish is roast duck with red curry: deboned roasted duck packed in red curry, herbs, grapes, tomatoes and bold flavors that just scream of Thailand!
Let Naughty Radish and Kantok excite your senses and inspire your soul with a whole new world of healthy dining!

Upon arrival at the entrance to the restaurant, you’ll understand the meaning of ‘Sala Bua’. A Thai sala is set in the middle of a ‘bua’ (lotus) pond. If this isn’t enough, the highlight is really the breathtaking sea view with 150 seats between the outdoor terrace and elegant indoor area decorated in a modern Thai style.
A dining experience at Sala Bua is always memorable with fresh sea breezes and the sound of waves lapping against the shore. The restaurant comes to life with a Filipino band.
There are many great starters to whet your appetite. The Pan Seared Foie Gras on yellow Thai mango and balsamic glaze is impressive with its classic simplicity in presentation. The foie gras (translates to ‘fatty liver’) is soft and tangy with a unique texture carefully balanced by the sweet of mango.
Baked Tasmanian Salmon Fillet with bok choy and light soy sauce is rich and nutritious nestled beautifully on a colorful platter. Tasmanian fresh salmon is wild salmon imported from Australia. The moist fish is excellently combined with fresh Asian bok choy and homemade light soy sauce.
Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Mashed Potato, Mushroom, Arugula & Barolo Sauce is a special main dish. Beef tenderloin is an extremely tender cut from the center loin and methods of cooking make for different tastes.
Chef Dirk creates a flawless dish with mashed potatoes, the slight bitter of a typical arugula Mediterranean salad, and red wine sauce of Barolo – a warm and caressing wine of Italy. The Grilled Beef Tenderloin is exceptionally juicy and well complemented with warm mashed potatoes.

Sala Bua is home to elegant fine dining perched at a prime location on the Patong beachfront and comfortably nestled in the stunning Impiana Resort Patong Phuket. This is where you’ll find the culinary innovation of European food with Asian flavor graced by a passion for cooking by Executive Chef Dirk Schroeter.
The restaurant has long had a superb reputation for consistent fine dining specializing in Mediterranean food. Quality meets opulence with a healthy spin from fresh ingredients, vegetables and olive oil.
King Scallops with Tomato & Papaya Salsa is another lovely dish. The fresh, succulent scallops are large in size and amply doused with tomato and Thai papaya prepared in spicy salsa style.
All the cuisine here goes very well with a glass of wine or a cocktail. The house cocktails are The Beach for June and Sunset on July.
Quality ingredients and materials are carefully selected by the experienced Chef. Attention to detail is important to every dish from preparation and taste to presentation showcasing culinary art. Service is top notch, prompt and courteous – leaving you wanting for nothing on your special night out.

Secret Cliff is a tropical getaway hidden in Karon Beach’s cliffside – and this is where you’ll find sublime fusion flavors in

• High up on the mountain in an environment that displays nature contrasted by sculptures, this special gem is well worth the journey. A sculpture of a Thai elephant playing in the water of a fountain at the entrance greets you before the walk down to the restaurant patio areas. Lined up all along the way are young Buddha statues guiding you to your table.
• The décor is highlighted by crisp white tablecloths with red stripes, chairs with red bows, and the romantic tunes of a classical pianist. The venue presents truly romantic warmth in its interior charmed by a book corner, sculptures and a fantastic view of Karon below. As the sun sinks slowly into the sea, you can try some of the sumptuous cuisine.
• The patio deck provides diners with an extraordinary ambience. Secret Cliff Restaurant serves Thai and international fusion food while the resort’s other restaurant Coco Pizza offers up traditional recipe and wood oven Italian style pizzas.
• A great starter is Secret’s Cliff Lobster Salad, comprised of pan-fried lobster in Thai style with black pepper accompanied by the fresh vegetable salad bar infused with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, lettuce, cabbage, onions and garlic served with a hint of seafood sauce.

• Phuket Lobster Thermidor is a rich dish you are sure to love. The grilled lobster is cooked precisely and removed from the shell. The sweet, firm 700 grams of lobster flesh is topped with cheese and Thermidor sauce and served with butter fried rice, garlic bread and grilled corn. Heavenly!
• Traditional Thai Fried Noodles with Tiger Prawns (pad Thai) is local Thai dish made with light bodied rice noodles. The noodles are fried with tofu, bean sprouts and Thai spices accompanied by Chinese chives and banana flowers alongside two tiger prawns in a beautiful presentation.
• Coco Pizza is definitely the place to check out an innovative pizza menu with titles like Seafood Pizza in Sausage Crust. Tables are set in Italian style with refreshing green tablecloths crossed by red stripes. The open kitchen offers a view of the Chef creating the pizza dough and putting on all the fresh toppings before placing it in the traditional oven. A crispy pizza with a charcoal aroma soon arrives – and the sausage crust is something special! Picpoul De Pinet or Chardonnay Reserve Fleur Bleue both go well with pizza.
Lovely service and careful attention to detail have created a romantic and friendly atmosphere with amazing cuisine. Make Secret Cliff the destination for your dining.

Catch & Grill at Patong Paragon
Waterfront Restaurant at Indochine
Phuket Sustainable S e a f o o d
As you pass by the racks of fresh seafood on ice and in tanks lining the beachfront at Patong, you may wonder where all these juicy prawns, big lobsters, fresh oysters and lively fish are coming from – and if they are ever going to run out.
True, one of the best things about Phuket is the incredible – and affordable – seafood. Foreign and domestic tourists alike flock to restaurants to chow down on heaping servings of shrimp, fish, clams, oysters, squid, crabs and much more – eating unbelievable amounts and washing it all down with the local Singha or Chang, or even imported wines in the more upscale places.
In fact, much of this seafood is now farmed right offshore, ensuring that next year when you return to holiday here, you will still be able to eat your favourite seafood dishes at an affordable rate. Aquaculture farms ensure that the prawns are getting bigger, not smaller – and that you can have once-seasonal treats like soft-shell crab, year round.
Phuket Sus ta inab le Seafood There is even abalone farming on Koh Siray, complete with a restaurant where you can enjoy this delicious treat cooked to perfection. Abalone is horrendously expensive in most of the world and this farm ships to Japan and Taiwan; the locally eaten abalone is affordable and if you’ve not tried it, this is the best place to do so.
Thailand is in fact, one of the largest producers and exporters of farmed shrimp, and even though a lot of the shrimp you see being raised offshore goes onto your holiday dinner plate – much more of it is being shipped overseas. In fact, countries like the USA rely on farming from Thailand and other countries for at least 30 per cent of their seafood.
Although soft-shelled crabs are not farmed in Phuket, they are raised just north of here, in Ranong province – and exported to the USA and other destinations around the world. A rare delight for most Westerners, they are best tried for the first time fried with pepper and garlic, and are available at most seafood restaurants in Phuket.
Experts agree that farmed seafood can be better for you – in that at least you know what it has been fed and the cleanliness of the environment. Many people believe farmed seafood also tastes better; it’s definitely fresher as it doesn’t spend as much time travelling from the water to the plate as caught seafood.
Restaurant Preview 46 47 www.phuket4seasons.com
Opus One Restaurant & BarThe Surface at La Flora Patong
Unfortunately unregulated seafood farming can be more detrimental than beneficial to the environment. Take for instance shrimp farms, which can become toxic and abandoned within a few years, leaving the area so damaged no other farming can be done there.
In some areas the farmed seafood is plied with antibiotics to keep it clean and healthy – but all traces should be gone by the time it is harvested. Even if you have an allergy to antibiotics (sulphonamide, tetracycline or penicillin), you should still be fine eating seafood in normal amounts. In general though, the seafood on Phuket is clean and fresh enough for export to the West – and you should have no problem consuming it.
On a good note, the Thai government has recognised the environmental problems of seafood farming and has already implemented many regulations to ensure that seafood farming moves in the right direction to provide sustainable seafood for Thailand and other parts of the world, as well as protect the country’s natural resources and environment.
If you have trouble deciding how you want your Phuket lobster, king prawns, soft-shell crab, oysters or fish cooked, then consider trying them in a Thai style that you probably wouldn’t get somewhere else. For instance, try shrimp in tom yum or as Thai spicy fried shrimp cakes; have your fish in green curry or steamed with lemon; eat your cuttlefish fried with garlic and pepper; or have your crab legs steamed and served with hot chilli sauce. No matter how you choose to have your seafood cooked, you can rest assured that Phuket’s chefs are professionals when it comes to bringing out the best in seafood.
