Course contentThis masters in education course is intended todevelop professional knowledge and understanding ofeducational leadership and management in practice. The course is designed to enable development of

understanding and skills in research and shows howto apply those skills to the investigation of a realleadership and/or management situation within thestudents host institution or one to which the studenthas negotiated access.

The course will seek to meet the professional

include teachers and lecturers as well as others who

may have an educational and/or training role within

other organisations. The course is based on thepremise that all professionals working within

    educational organisations potentially have a

leadership role. An important aim is to help examine,

test and apply the theoretical perspectives and

    knowledge of educational leadership and

management to areas of concern for professional

practice through undertaking a small-scale research

    project.

    investigating current leadership and

    management issues.

    Examine the application of theoretical

perspectives and knowledge to real situations.

    Develop skills of investigation thereby

improving analytical abilities in relation to

leadership and management issues that will

    help improve future practice.

Develop skills of critical reflection in relation to

research literature, personal research andprofessional practice.

Computer-based group activities are an integral partof the course, some of which are linked to theassignments. The assignments build theunderstanding and skills in preparation for completinga practitioner research project which takes the placeof an examination.
