Mexico Research Project 2019 Throughout recent years, the Mexican economy has experienced macroeconomic stability and growth. Most of this economic growth is effectuated through the rapidly developing modern industrial and service sectors, strengthened by improvements in infrastructure through increased competition in ports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution and airports. Mexico is a country with a service economy where retail trade and tourism are important. In terms of resources, in 2016, Mexico’s oil reserves were estimated 0.6% of global reserves in addition to being a significant gas producer. The mining sector is among the global top ten of sixteen key minerals. In terms of production, Mexico is also among the world’s largest producers of coffee, sugar, maize, oranges, avocados and lime. Mexico is the world’s fifth-largest producer of beer and the world’s only producer of tequila. It is also a significant producer of silver, gold and copper. More than 90% of Mexican’s trade with other countries is under free trade agreements, with an economy that is export-oriented. In April 2018, the European Union and Mexico reached an agreement in principle on a renewed trade agreement practically abolishing EU import duties on Mexican produce. This renewed trade agreement and subsequent lower prices are expected to be beneficial for European agriculture, machine industry, and transport sectors. Another interesting economic factor is that the Mexican labor force has been recognized as the hardest working labor force in the world by the OECD and WTO. Additionally, unemployment is relatively low at 3.4%. However, productivity remains low. The increased implementation of latest technologies has the potential to keep improving the productivity of this work force. Therefore, due to its growth potential, Mexico is a very promising country for the FSA Research Project 2019. For full information about opportunities in Mexico, please check out our profiler!

Throughout recent years, the Mexican economy has experienced macroeconomic stability and growth. Since 1994, the FSA Research Project is organized by the Financial Study association Amsterdam (FSA), which is the largest financial study association in the Netherlands. The project will be carried out by 18 highly ambitious and motivated students from the University of Amsterdam and the VU university Amsterdam. The FSA cooperates with a multitude of companies. Examples of participating companies in the past are:

ABN AMRO // AEGON // DHL // ING Group // Royal Philips // Shell // Unilever // Greenpeace // Heineken // Rabobank

The aim of the FSA Research Project is to provide consultancy services for corporations, together with a team of 18 student consultants. These high-potential participants are selected for being extremely motivated and for having international, organizational and/or research experience. The team will be dedicated to the acquisition and completion of nine different assignments. During the whole process the students will be trained by a number of leading companies to improve their skills and knowledge, relevant to the project.

The FSA Research Project is an excellent opportunity to provide answers to your business questions. We deliver tailormade professional consultancy services and research reports for companies with international aspirations in emerging countries. As the FSA operates on a non-profit basis, company specific research can be conducted at a competitive price. The quality is guaranteed by years of experience, careful selection of the researchers, seminars from knowledgeable experts and guidance by the best professors the city of Amsterdam has to offer.

Examples of former types of research that have been conducted: • Market and growth strategy analysis• Identification of possible business partners• Distribution and logistics research• Finance or investment opportunities• Outsourcing and offshoring opportunities• Import and export analysis

Before going abroad, thorough desk research will be carried out and maximum preparation will be ensured. Intensive training and guidance about how to conduct research, how to access the Mexican business market and how to build and maintain relationships with clients are offered to fully prepare the researchers. During the entire process, our advisory board supports us. In July and Augustus 2019, 5 weeks of field research will take place in Mexico. Once the participants have returned to the Netherlands, the gathered data will be processed and the final report will be written. The company will constantly be kept well-informed and updated about the project’s progress. The research results will be presented to the contracted company and, upon request, confidentiality can be guaranteed.
