This relates to the type of music I will be using due to the video he directed with Asking Alexandria, ‘The Final Episode’. I will be using this for inspiration of my video through the setting and band movements.

Robby Starbuck is very diverse with his chosen genres of music (Snoop Dog being of the rap, There for Tomorrow being rock, Asking Alexandria being heavy rock/metal) and seems to keep his videos mainly performance based, to keep full focus on the band.

Robby Starbuck also produces music for certain bands and by this has a stronger view on diversity as it has allowed him to watch over other directors work.

The Final Episode – Asking Alexandria

Metal/Heavy Rock/Screamo band – This is purely performance based reinforcing the unique style of the band. This also highlights the fun the band has as a whole playing the music. There are shots of miscellaneous objects moving with the music. Many close –ups are used here to focus on the lead vocalist and the control he has over the band.

Ian Carey Feat. Snoop Dogg, Bobby Anthony - Last Night

Rap artists – Both performance and narrative based. The narrative location is a house party with many people there reinforcing the bands popularity. There are many long shots used here to highlight the location and popularity of the band.

I See Stars "What This Means To Me" Music Video

Rap/Pop-punk/Screamo band – Partly narrative, mostly performance. The narrative highlights the fun theme of the band as a whole. Constant fades used reinforcing the rock genre of music.

There For Tomorrow - Hunt Hunt Hunt

Pop punk band – Video being purely performance based material. Uses extreme long shots to show the whole band throughout. This is effective as it highlights the bands personality as a whole.

Alex Fergeson has worked with a number of icons. These have made him a highly influential music video director. Yet due to his work in music videos (being such an un-noticed production team) he is very much under-rated.

Fall Out Boy – Thnks fr th Mmrs

Pop-Punk band – This music video was highly diverse due to its use of real monkeys in the narrative. The narrative is integrated in the performance based section of the video to reinforce the bands personality. The locations differ using a realistic music video set including the director’s chair and camera men, to a hotel room, then to a live performance set based purely around the band and them playing.

Gym Class Heroes – Clothes off

Rap/rock band – This music video is performance based with integrated narrative throughout. The location of the video is a casino reinforcing the idea of riches being a conventional theme of rap music.

Panic! At the Disco – That Green Gentleman

Rock band. This video is mostly narrative based with an abstract journey with the band using penny-farthing’s and row boats. There is performance based material e.g. when the band sit and sing in the row boat. The video also features a young version of the band featuring Cameron Boyce (as Ryan Ross’ younger double)

“Weird Al” Yankovic

“Weird Al” Yankovic is a music producer and director. Being youtube based he has won many awards for his work and has made him well known.

“Weird Al” Yankovic – Trapped In the Drive Thru

Not Genre Specific. The animation of this video strongly highlights the storyline of the music video. This also evokes the comic sense of music video. “Weird Al” Yankovic intends here to exaggerate the norms of life to the point of getting a comedic response.

“Weird Al” Yankovic – White and Nerdy

Rap/Parody. White and Nerdy is a parody to the chart topping ‘Riding Dirty’ and intends to contrast to the original until it reaches comedic value. The narrative follows a ‘nerd’ trying to be a ‘gangster’ and being rejected at every point, whilst the performance features the artist in stereotypical gangster clothes.
