Depression is associated with cognitive, neural and emotional function. As a result, chronic depression frequently results in poor quality of life. Focusing on abnormal dlPFC brain function in individuals with depression using EEG methods. A robust disruption in the normal pattern of cerebral laterality is often observed, with a reduction in left lateralized brain activity, superimposed on an overall bilateral reduction in frontal alpha in individuals with depression. The present study investigates how resting state brain activity (measured by the alpha frequency) is influenced by mood state factors (i.e., current depression symptoms) and trait-like factors (i.e., lifetime history of depression) in order to work toward identifying potential neural biomarkers of depression that will inform and improve preventative therapeutic techniques for those at risk for relapse. Recycling in Georgia Highlands College Research Project Fall 2013 – May 2014 Georgia Highlands College Lead Researcher in Understanding the Behavior of Recycling Created the project which passed the Institutional Review Board. Responsible for managing the responsibilities of research assistants. Trained research assistants. Created questionnaire, survey and collected observational data. Used data to help improve recycling at Georgia Highlands College by hosting a permanent educational campaign and changing housekeeping policy. This project will also be used to catalyze a sustainability program for the college in terms of minimizing water, electric, and waste expenses and usage for current and new buildings in all 6 campuses. This project measured the behavior of recycling and improving recycling in respect with the methods of signage, location, and type of containers. Presented the research at the 2014 Georgia Highlands College Foundation Gala.

Recycling in Georgia Highlands College Research Project Fall 2013 – May 2014Georgia Highlands College Lead Researcher in Understanding the Behavior of Recycling Created the project which passed the Institutional Review Board. Responsible for managing the responsibilities of research assistants. Trained research assistants. Created questionnaire, survey and collected observational data. Tellus Museum Study Spring- 2013Georgia Highlands College Lead Researcher in Determining How Children Learn Science in a Museum Setting Worked with Tellus Museum staff at the Tellus Museum which is a Smithsonian affiliate. Recruited and completed consent forms with legal guardians and participants. Managed the research assistants’ tasks and responsibilities. Trained research assistants. Participated in data collection, and observational data. Compiled and evaluated all statistical information using NUMBERS, MINITAB, and EXCEL. Responsible for the recruitment, selection and research assistant function, ensuring department needs and all legal requirements are met. Used data to help improve the functionality of several exhibits at the museum and ensure effective access to site information

Verbal Working Memory Study

Spring- 2013 Georgia Highlands College

Lead Researcher in The Verbal Working Memory Study on ADHD/ADD Medicated/Non-Medicated. Participated in creating the technology needed for the project, recruiting participants, obtaining consent, handling sensitive and private medical information, and administering a verbal working memory assessment. Trained research assistants. Compiled and evaluated all statistical information using NUMBERS, MINITAB, and EXCEL. Used data to improve a later study on memory for the Spring 2014, which was be presented at The University of North Georgia for the Colligate Honors Council. This study is also under consideration to be published

Everglades Restoration and Environmental Science Magnet Program August 2007- May 2008 South Plantation High SchoolSeveral studies required onsite research and observation to be done. Collected samples and notes on site for further analysis. Research was conducted at local canals for water sampling and assessment of the natural flora and fauna. Awareness of current issues revolving U.S. Big Sugar and other Organizations such as the EPA, Storm Water Treatment Plants, and other vital components that affect and regulate the Everglades was visited and researched. Research also conducted at the International Game and Fish Association on marine life and other costal fauna was assed and presented. All research conducted was assessed with assistance of other students in the program and examined at the labs in our facilities
