THE HOLY FATHER’S SEPTEMBER INTENTION

An Environmentally Sustainable Lifestyle We pray that we all will make courageous choices for a simple and

environmentally sustainable lifestyle, rejoicing in our young people who are resolutely committed to this.

Meeting and events for September Sept 6 – Labor Day Sept 11-12 – Mission Appeal Sept 18-19 – Fr. Lorenz will be here. Sept 19 – Catechetical Sunday Sept 22 – Autumnal Equinox Sept 25-26 – Bishop’s Vocation Appeal

What is Labor Day and why do we celebrate it? Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first

Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the

development and achievements of the United States. It is the Monday of the long weekend known as Labor Day Weekend.

Labor Day gives most of us a day or more of rest from our labor (work). It is

time to be thankful for the work God gives us and that most of us believe and

feel that we need. It is somewhat strange to see the signs in the windows today

that workers are need. There may be various reasons why people may not want

to work. The bottom line is that we need to work if we can for our own benefit

and that of our nation and world. One suggestion is that it would be good to

reflect upon the Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII on capital and labor, Rerum Novarum. You find it online.

SPIRITUAL READING?!

offers much with prayer, scripture, reflections. There are extra copies in church.

the WORD among us offers Daily Mass Readings, meditations and more.

Both of these periodicals are available in church. If you can and wish to support

they are $2 monthly.

THE MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE PROGRAM In the previous years we have had mission appeals during the summer months with Missioners coming to visit us and asking for our support. Last year due to the pandemic the missionaries were unable to come and are still unable to come to the United States to do their appeal but the needs are still there as we know. We can choose from a number of appeals from the misso.org website. Realizing the recent disasters, I decided to choose Haiti with the earthquake and hurricane that recently devastated their land and lives. We will be having this Mission Coop Collection for Haiti on the weekend of September 11-12. Envelopes are attached to this bulletin.

Marriage Encounter Experience: Enhancing our couple heart to heart love. Sept. 17-19, 2021 in Lincoln. Call us right away to reserve a place. Contact Pat & Janelle Ben son. Pat 308-940-0670; Janelle 308-940-1105; [email protected]. Time is a factor for many. When is a good tome? With farming, this would be a good time it seems before harvest. You need to rely on others to help you make this time—the family, neighbors. M.E. is to make good marriages better. Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly has a new fall schedule of weekend retreats. Available in person and online. Save the flyer enclosed in this week's Southern Nebraska Register, or visit the new web site: goodcounselretreat.org. Upcoming retreats include an Unbound Retreat Aug. 27- 29, Directed Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Sept. 3-6 and 9- 12, and a Work of the Holy Angels retreat Sept. 16-19, 2021. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), Adult Education, Study, Sharing of the Faith. I spoke of this last weekend hope to instill in you a desire to grow and share the Catholic Faith. If I receive any interest we can set up a time to meet. The first part is the inquiry time to ask questions. St. Patrick’s in McCook always offers a class. If it works out better there I am sure the welcome mat is out. You can study the Faith online also with “formed.org,” or studying on your own with some additional assistance. One course is entitled: “Come and See.” I’m still looking for some willing souls to become EMHC (Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). I have three acolytes. Lay Men or Women, couples are eligible.
