BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the context of active participation on environmental conservation, protection and improvement, schools are confronted with enormous accountability of educating the learners.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This is a pilot study of DepEd Calamba City specifically at San Ramon Elementary School. It is one of the biggest elementary schools in the Division headed by a Principal 2 with around 60 teachers and 1800 pupils.

Methods

The participants answered the survey questionnaire. The tool consisted of two parts. The first part includes the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, and grade level.

Methods

The second part includes the school related variables such as schools rules on water conservation, energy conservation, eco-waste management with two subparts: environmental awareness and the environmental involvement. Data were treated in depth through percentage, mean, and Pearson r using SPSS.

Findings

The findings reveal that most of the pupil-respondents were female and they are evenly distributed per grade level from kinder to grade 6.

This study identified ‘high’ level of awareness and involvement of pupils in water and electrical conservation and eco-waste management. Homogeneity of responses is evident. Sex appears to have significant relationship on the pupils’ waste management involvement.

Sex appears to have significant relationship on the pupils’ waste management involvement. Females are more involved on waste management than males. Therefore, the hypothesis “There is no significant relationship between respondents’ profile variables such as age, gender and grade level and the pupils’ level of awareness, and involvement in environmental protection and conservation was partially not accepted
