    Representation of gender Hotel Babylon

At the beginning of the extract, we see the immigration officers approaching the

hotel reception in order to locate the immigrants. The police officers are white

and are all very well dressed, which shows their level of authority.

Instantly when the three migration workers come in we see a black man slightly

peak over the top of his paper, the look he gives can indicate that he knows what

    they are there for.

When we are shown Ibrahim he has his headphones in doing the hovering, at this

point all of the immigrants have got the warning and gone to hide in the staff

room, however he is unaware of this because he has his headphones in. this can

be looked at as a stereotype.

When the immigrants are in the staff room one of them passes out. The character

Adam is a doctor and is smart enough to know what is happening to her and howto bring her out of the fit. Because Adam is very smart and helpful it plays against

a general stereotype that black people being criminals and rude.

In the editing we are shown a montage of clips of all the immigrants working

together as a team to get into safety so they arent caught, even though what they

are doing is illegal they still work successfully together without anything going

    wrong.

The actors within the scene are all from different origins. The blonde manager

woman and Jackie are both very feminine and pretty, even though the blonde isBritish and Jackie is Asian, this shows the audience than the ethnicity doesnt

affect the working ability each character endures. The immigrant workers

usually talk in their native language and are very religious. Their religion is

shown through the emotion show in the canteen, which reflects the close

    relationships made.

When we are shown the two religious black characters praying surrounding

voices go silent and sad music is suddenly introduced. This ads affect to the

scene and it can play against the stereotype that blacks in that specific ethnic

culture is criminals, when in reality not all of them are. Then non-diegetic music,

including the effective use of violins, is used during sadder moments of the scene. For example, when the locker of the lost man is being emptied.

In a mise en scene we are shown three Asian characters sat around a table

chatting, smiling and laughing, causing no harm at all to anyone just enjoying

their work break. This specific scene goes against the stereotype that all Asian

    people are unemployed.

Finally the actual set can show a lot about ethnicity, for example upstairs in the

hotel it is very smart which gives an impression the hotel is high class attracts

rich people, however downstairs in the staff areas where the immigrants workthe area seems to be shown as, messy and tacky. The contrast between the two

can show that the customers are a lot better treated and respected than the

    ethnic workers.
