B.A dia.450mm x 25 mm thick steel plate was used to distribute the load from the jack to the plate and to the ground. C.Twodialgauges(G1&G2)withaccuracyof0.01mmwereusedtomeasurethe deflections during loading and unloading. 4.0 TEST PROCEDURE The test ground was loaded as per ASTM D1195 as per the loading and unloading steps. These steps were for all the tests conducted. Loading: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550 kPa. Unloading: 275, 125, 0 kPa. Each loading and unloading stage was maintained for 15 minutes with readings made at 1, 2, 4, 8 and 15 minutes after the application or removal of load.
