Report on Shearing Competition at
Deniliquin Pastoral & Agricultural Society Show
Saturday, 1st March 2014
A tremendous amount talent & skills were on display when over 45 competitors took part in
the Riverina Shearing Championships at the Deniliquin Show on Saturday, 1st March 2014.
Once again Deniliquin had ideal weather for the weekend of our show, as this was our third
year holding this event, we were very pleased by the growing number of competitors and
supporters, appealing to the wide range of show attendants, informing them of the evolution
of shearing, showcasing the new technology and skills of today.
Everybody contributed to this event by delivering a jam packed program starting at 9am and
finishing after dark with presentation under lights , with wool handlers, open & novice,
shearing from learners to seniors, there really was something for everyone.
Competitors travelled from as far away as Western Australia, South Australia and
Queensland, as well as from NSW and Victoria.
Eight learners competed and gained valuable experience at competition level, and were
encouraged by the experience shearers. Our aim is that they will now be able to confidently
move forward into a career in shearing, as have some of the learners from our 2013
competition.
All competitors reported that they had enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to
coming back again next year.
They said they were impressed with the organisation of the event, and the fact that there are
now perment shearing stands and yards, all due to the hard work and dedication of a small
group who are passion about this industry and its continual growth.
The Deniliquin P&A Society would like to thank Australian Wool Innovation sincerely for
their generous sponsorship and look forward to your support again for next year’s event.
