Report of the Fragrance Workshop “Creating a Scent Story” 17 th Oct 2015 A one day workshop on “Creating a Scent Story” was organized by Fragrance sub-committee of Fragrances and Flavours Association of India at Memories Hall, The Grand Bhagwati , Ahmedabad on 17 th October 2015. The aim of the workshop was to encourage creativity, innovativeness and originality in creation of fragrances, encourage team building and motivate upcoming youngsters to share their creativity experience with the audience. Mr. Kamlesh Hinduja in his welcome speechtalked about the growing fascination of consumers with fragrances and the need for new, powerful and long lasting fragrances in the agarbatti Industry. The workshop aimed at creating an environment where combined efforts of Individuals would excel in creativity and ultimately facilitate peer bonding among fellow perfumers of the Industry. The President Ms. Nivedita Assar in her presidential addresshighlighted the objective of the workshop – the first ever on the FAFAI platform with live blending stations, motivating young perfumers to create. We are thankful to Mr. V. Shankar Narayan and Mr. Girish Shah both veterans of the industry,who were invited to evaluate the blends prepared by the participants and share their evaluation with everyone. It was a memorable day in the history of FAFAI as for the first time we had students enrolled from Vaze College, first college of perfumery in India started by our beloved Bhausaheb, who dreamt of taking forward perfumery industry in India by providing systematic education to the young professionals. We also had legacies of family businesses along with individuals aspiring to become great noses participate in the workshop. It was a great sight to see everyone from different parts of the country come together and share their knowledge and become partners in learning. In all there were29 participants who participated in the live b lending and evaluation of fragrances. There were a few spot registrations by some inspired delegates as well. The workshop was divided into 3 sessions of live blending for each fragrance family namely (floral, fougere/chypre , oriental). Three teams were allotted to each fragrance family so in totality we had 9 teams.

Report of the Fragrance Workshop “Creating a Scent Story” 17th Oct 2015

The blend thus prepared by each team was discussed and evaluated by the panel consisting of Mr. Shankar Narayan & Mr. Girish Shah with the audience in the form of open discussion. In all 9 agarbathi blends were prepared by the participants, discussed, and evaluated.

Mr. Shankar Narayanan briefly talked about the three families,Floral, Fancy (Chypre&Fougere) and Oriental and presented his own agarbatti creations from the same.

We had a total of 120 registrations for the workshop.

The workshop was very well conducted by the Fragrance Committee Chairman Mr. DharmeshHemani and well arranged by the regional Secretary Mr. Atul (Bipin) Dattani.

FAFAI wishes to put on record, efforts of the entire team who helped set this workshop.

This was a first stab at doing something that was never done before on the FAFAI platform. We are hopeful that this would be a stepping stone to many such creative and fruitful workshops in the future.

Some of the suggestions emerged from the participants are mentioned below:
