Report of Sindh Universities Sports Gala-2005 February 8 to 10, 2005 Under the auspices of : Higher Education Commission (Sports Wing) Organized by : Directorate of Physical Education, university of Karachi. Table Tennis The Directorate of Physical Education, University of Karachi, following the directives and keeping in view the goals and objectives of HEC, planned this event in a well organized manner for which not only did the Sports management but also the Karachi university leadership co-operated. Due to which, twenty varsities from all over the Sindh, participated. These universities were intimated timely through correspondence concerning the schedule programme. To review and finalize programme a meeting of all the Director sports of the affiliated colleges held in which all the rules and regulations were decided with the mutual consultation and consent. To make this event significant; the director physical education and the co-coordinator sports gala proposed to design a logo. The task for designing the logo were handed over to the Chairperson of Audio and visual department, university of Karachi. The chairperson along with her students designed more than 30 logos from which this logo was selected / chosen unanimously because it was reflecting the sports spirits besides civilization of Sindh and the same logo was embossed on all the trophies of winner, runner and third positions which was highly praised and appreciated not only by the players but also by the people from different walks of lives. To give the due coverage in printed and electronic media a press conference was held three days earlier before the sports gala of which more than thirty journalists attended. .

The sports Gala-2005 consisted of the following Sports events: -

The Directorate of Physical Education, University of Karachi, following the directives and

keeping in view the goals and objectives of HEC, planned this event in a well organized

manner for which not only did the Sports management but also the Karachi university

leadership co-operated. Due to which, twenty varsities from all over the Sindh, participated.

These universities were intimated timely through correspondence concerning the schedule

programme. To review and finalize programme a meeting of all the Director sports of the affiliated

colleges held in which all the rules and regulations were decided with the mutual consultation and

The Vie chancellor, university of Karachi inaugurated the ceremony at 4:00 P.M on February

8,2005. On this occasion, the arrival of Director general sports and Executive director, HEC,

Sohail H. Naqvi, was expected but they could not attend the ceremony due their engagements.

Minister for sports, culture and youth affairs, Mr. Qamar Mansoor, was the chief guest in the

opening and closing ceremonies.

At the inaugural ceremony, the entrance and the surroundings of the grounds were decorated

with the colored buntings, banners and with flags of different size. Balloons and pigeons were

released in the air, which constituted a fascinating sight. National anthem was played by Navy

Band and the players, participating in the sports Gala, passed with their representing flags before the

saluting stage. That immemorial moment of discipline could not express in words. It was a worth

seeing sight. Bazgha sharmeen, a prominent athletics, administer an oath on behalf of the Karachi

university players.

Organizing secretary, Mrs.Abida Shaheen, Assistant Director of this Directorate of Physical

Education, welcomed the venerated guest in her welcome speech hoping that the three days sports

gala will be held with great discipline, satisfaction of the superiors and pleasure. The co-coordinator

sports gala thanked the HEC, which provided an opportunity to gather all the varsities of Sindh at a

plate form having the reverence for one another with the spirit of co-operation.

Vice chancellor, university of Karachi appreciated the efforts made by the management to make

the event successful and hoped that this exercise would continue so that the students might get more

chances and could reflect physical and metal fitness in their practical lives.

The distinguished guest, Mr. Qamar Mansoor paid tribute to President Pervaiz General

Musharraf who took practical steps for the promotion of sports and admitted that he, in the capacity

of sports minister, considered himself fortunate enough that he has been provided an opportunity to

serve under the umbrella of this ministry and he would try his best to extend his help utilizing his

covert and overt skills for the promotion of sports. He also congratulated the university of Karachi

for holding such a successful event..

The out-stationed teams were provided the accommodation nearer to their venues of competition.

For this purpose three venues were chosen. K.P.T sports Complex, National Stadium Coaching and

Training Center, Peoples stadium and Ibrahim Hydery Football ground.

Athletics

In athletics events, 16 teams participated, Organizing chairman, Professor. Anis Zaidi,

along with other co-coordinators Imran Khan, Rashid Qureshi, Gazanfer, Dr. Asif, Raees

Alvi, Gohar Raza, and Naeem Afridi supervised the matches.

In the awarding ceremony all the directors who hailed from the interior of Sindh were

also present to grace the occasion. First position went to University of Karachi, second

secured by shah Latif University and the third position clinched by Sindh University

Jamshoro.

Badminton

In badminton 14 teams participated under the supervision of organizing committee

chairman and other. Chairman of organizing committee Prof. Jameel, Waseem majid,

Dr.Ravi Shanker and Prof. Dr. Ejaz Rasool were present on this occasion. According to

result first position went to Karachi University, Second position clinched by Sindh

University while the third position went to Shah Latif University.

Football:

In football, 12 universities took part and all the matches were played on Knockout

basis. According to the results Karachi University got first Position, Tan do Adam

Agriculture secured Second position while Sir Syed clinched third Position. Gold

medals were given away in all the three teams of final matches. Executive committee

member Ghulam Sabir, Principal Sirajuddullah College besides other organizing

members was also present on this occasion. The following details as under: -

Abida Shaheen were on the occasion. . First position secured by Karachi University, Second

position went to Shah Latif University and third position clinched by Agricultural University

Tando Jam.

ceremonies & during the competition to the Officials

and players.

Accommodation : All the teams were accommodated in National

Sports Training & Coaching Center, Stadium Road,

Karachi.

Transportation : Transportation facilities were provided to all

universities.

Discipline : All the teams were well disciplined and cooperative.

Mrs. Soofia Khaliq, organizing secretary, was the chief guest in the award ceremony. The

other awards were distributed by Mrs. Abida Shaheen, Zahid Rizvi, commander Muhtaq,

representative of HEC, Prof. Anis Zaidi, Prof Jameel, Hameeda Jilani , and by the chairperson of

Audio Visual Center, Mrs. Durria Kazi,

The closing ceremony was held on 10th

of February at 4 P.M. The venue was decorated with

the colored buntings, flags and with the beat of drum. Minster for sports culture and youth affairs,

Mr. Qamar Mansoor, was the chief guest on the occasion. While the vice chancellor, university of

Karachi, prof. Pir. Zada Qasim Raza siddiqui presided over the ceremony . Mr. Qamar Mansoor, in

his address declared the sports gala closed. On this occasion wall clock, souvenir, pins, bags and

key chains embossed with the logo of sports gala were given away which would be serve as a

souvenir for years.
