letter from the board chair and ceo
Our 2018-2019 fiscal year marked the 34th anniversary of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties. Thanks to your support, hundreds of homeowner partners have had the opportunity to improve their housing situations through a zero-percent interest mortgage, providing a safe and affordable place to live for years to come.
Through the commitment of our Habitat partner homeowners, board of directors, volunteers, donors and staff, our affiliate was able to make a deep impact in Pinellas and West Pasco Counties this past fiscal year:
• 167 families served in fiscal year 2018-2019 (July 2018 – June 2019), including 64 new homes.
• More than 88,000 volunteer hours helped construct these homes.
• Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco was recognized regionally with the inaugural Clearwater Young Professionals Award of Excellence, the Nonprofit of the Year Award from the Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber Nonprofit of the Year and as a One Tampa Bay Honoree by the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
• Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco received the 4 Star Charity Navigator rating and GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency, which is the highest level of transparency.
• 95 cents of every dollar donated to Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco goes directly to building affordable homes for moderate-income families in our community!
We are proud of our families for their dedication to improve not only their lives, but also the lives of their children.
We thank you for continuing to support Habitat through your generous donation of time, talent and treasure.

building hope and community
Your contributions and volunteerism help Habitat make life-changing differences for struggling families and, in the process, positively impact our neighborhoods.
Every day, thousands of local hardworking families have to decide between paying rent or buying groceries. Monthly rent in the area has escalated, leaving a significant gap between what families can afford and what’s available. We are working hard to make affordable homeownership a reality
because we believe that everyone deserves a decent place to live.
Habitat served 167 families in the fiscal year of 2018 - 2019. Hard work and generosity made it possible for these homeowners to have something that most of us take for granted — peace of mind and a stable place for their children to thrive.
A hand up, not a handout. Habitat homeowners work hard; they don’t ask for handouts. At the end of the homeowner’s journey, they have put in at least 350 hours of “sweat equity,” made a modest down payment and received a zero-interest mortgage. Our homeowners are physically and financially invested in their homes and set on the right path toward responsible homeownership. The homeowner classes they are required to complete as part of their covenant with Habitat provide them with the tools to be successful homeowners and contributing citizens in their local communities.
In Florida, 1 in 6 households spend half or more of their income on housing. With help from our supporters, we can make the cost of home affordable for everyone.
People are often surprised by how much we can
do with their donations. With as little as $30, we can put up a wall in a Habitat home, buy several bags of concrete or a bundle of shingles. That is impressive, seeing as $30 isn’t enough to fill up a gas tank these days.
Even the smallest donations can make a big difference, and our supporters know their money is going to a good cause. Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco received a 4 Star rating from Charity Navigator and the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency. The Platinum Seal is the highest level of transparency, which means you can trust we are being responsible with your donations. Of every dollar donated, 95 cents goes to our homeownership program.
Habitat’s homeownership program benefits our community:
• Revitalizes neighborhoods• Increases the tax base• Encourages volunteerism• Removes substandard housing• Provides employment for subcontractors

THE WALKER FAMILY
The Walker family is led by Tikeytia, a radiologic technologist and mother of two children. Kieron loves football and computers. Maia, her nine year old daughter, enjoys cheerleading, dancing and arts and crafts. The Walkers love spending time together and making each other laugh.
Tikeytia explains that her family’s living conditions have always been difficult. “I have been back and forth with family members. I have always tried to do the best I can as a single parent but the cost of living has been the most challenging because every time I take a step up to do better for myself and my children, the prices go up.”
When she found out they were accepted into the Habitat Homeownership program, Tikeytia said that she was in a state of shock. “This is something I have dreamed about since I was 23 years old. It still is surreal, I am thankful to be given the opportunity to prove that I deserve this.”
“My kids and I have never had stability. It hurts me every day to see them not have a room of their own to be comfortable in. I used to imagine my kids running home from school, coming into a house asking 'mom what did you cook for dinner?' This means so much to us because we will have peace.”
Tikeytia's dream of homeownership became a reality on June 15th, 2019in St. Petersburg.
“I am building because this home will be the foundation for me, my
children and generations to come. I am building my legacy, my dream.”
