EVENTS

ALGO-RHYTHM

Algo-rhythm was an event that required participants to come up with a solo dance performance

on the spot, without any prior preparation. The competition was split into three rounds. The first

round was a warm-up round where participants would come onto the stage and dance to random

songs which are played and switched instantly. This round got their nerves settled, and also made

them comfortable with the stage, lighting, music and the audience.

The second round was the one that judged them on their creativity. Participants were made to

pick up paper slips before the event that contained a word. They had to spell out the whole word

on stage by dancing. The main grading criteria for this round were the flow of the dance and

their inventiveness.

For the third round, the stage had been divided into four quadrants. They were hip-hop, classical,

folk and freestyle. One song was played for every participant. He/she had to come and dance

through all these different forms of dance. As the song moved on, the participant had to switch

quadrants and would be able to complete his performance only when he would dance in all the

quadrants on the stage.

HACKATHON

Hackathons, which are a quick route for idea generation, have been surging in popularity for

various reasons in recent years. A hackathon is characterized as an occasion where groups of

experts and advisors meet up to cooperatively construct and dispatch new thoughts. The Christ

Hackathon event aims to spur innovation through various creativity initiatives and sustain the

successful outcomes via careful management practices among students.

This being the second hackathon hosted by Christ, there has been immense progress from the

preceding year. Day 1 of the event began with a brief introduction, which continued to a 24-hour

brainstorming session which had a massive transfer of ideas. Participants were across various

colleges, namely PES University, St. Joseph’s, Surana, VIT Vellore, and Ramiah.

The teams used platforms such as HackerEarth to register and the GitHub repository to

constantly update their work. Telegram was used as a medium to communicate with the

participants, constantly helping them with procedures and queries.

The First judge for the day was Mr. Lavish Agarwal, currently working in HackerEarth as a

software engineer and is also an open source contributor. The Second Judge was Mr. Abhinav

Dubey, working as CSO at Breadware. He has had a rewarding career at AMD reaching the level

of member of technical staff within 6.5 years.

From ideation to execution, we see hackathons upending traditional business models and

rewiring the competitive landscape. The hackathon’s format, culture and its exciting possibilities

to help people adapt to the future are remarkable.
