2 MEHAR BABA CHARITABLE TRUST | ANNUAL REPORT 2019
s the Financial Year 2019 /
A2020 was coming to an
end, the world plunged
into the most critical and
disastrous CRISIS it had
experienced since the Spanish
Influenza of 1918. MBCT was no
exception, each and every activity
came to a sudden halt on the 23
March 2020, when the Prime
Minister declared a nationwide
lockdown due to medical
emergency. But our brave MBCT
staff, management & volunteers
came to the fore and became the
new COVID Heroes in its area of
operations. They reached out to all
the needy people in the adopted
187 village offering Food Rations,
medicine, masks, sanitizes and all
other essentials. The brave rural
artisans of Phulkari Makers Bassi
Pathana went a step ahead and
produced PPE kits and masks for
supply to the hospitals, as there
was acute shortage of these items.
I salute all at MBCT for showing
such remarkable courage &
resilience in these difficult times.

s we struggle to combat
Athe pandemic, and look
at its after effects, the
people in 187 villages under
MBCT’s care had a great
advantage of practising and
following Covid norms, what
they had already been doing.
MBCT had initiated massive
campaign on hand-washing and
sanitization in District Fatehgarh
Saheb couple of years ago.
Children and families were
already following the hand-
washing protocol at their homes
and schools. This resulted in
better protection to the
residents of our villages in the
District.
Thanks to the villagers who
accepted MBCT’s initiative and
became partners with us.
Ajit Singh Chatha
President
nother remarkable year
Aof MBCT’s excellent
service to the people of
Fatehgarh Saheb District. We
hjave seen many corporate and
global organisations joining
hands with us to reach out to
the people in need.
Most crucial had been MBCT’s
resolve to empower the girls
and women in the area. Those
who had never stepped out of
their homes, have enriched their
own lives and that of their
families through their own
enterprises.
Nothing is more satisfying than
seeing our women becoming a
strong pillar of support for their
families, inspiring many others
to make a new beginning.
ne of the key learnings
Ofor all our friends
associated with MBCT
had been that change can be
imagined and brought about
only when the people, the
beneficiaries, become partners
in the mission. And it is very
satisfying that MBCT had been
able to achieve it.
Over the years, MBCT has
become a part of the lives of
every villagers. They have
discovered a new mentor in the
Trust who can help them and
lead them to a better way of
living.
And we feel blessed. As our
father used to say, we are
blessed that these villages have
given us the opportunity to be
of use to them.

Har Haath Hunar, Har Ghar Khushi
ince its inception, MBCT had an avowed objective to
Sempower women, who had remained tied to their hearths.
Young girls dropped out of school for various reasons, the
primary one being the patriarchal mind-set of the people to keep
them engaged in domestic chores only. Education was their
least priority and making them work was taboo. This barrier is
broken as has the faith of the people grown over years of service
by MBCT.
MBCT has shown them the way and brought girls to its well-
equipped Centre in Bassi Pathana, to teach them newer skills
and make them self- reliant.
