The postdoctoral fellow will perform various types of forensic evaluations under supervision including: temporary custody evaluations, competence to stand trial (initial and post-restoration), mental state at the time of the offense and risk assessments for court-ordered defendants. These evaluations may include the use of forensic assessment instruments and assessment of malingering.

• Psychological Evaluations

The postdoctoral fellow will perform various types of psychological evaluations under supervision, including IQ and personality testing, neuropsychological instruments and tests of malingering. There may also be opportunity for sex offender risk assessments.

Intervention:

• If interested, the postdoctoral fellow may serve in a treatment-oriented role to include individual and group psychotherapy, psychoeducation, treatment planning and principles of recovery, team building, milieu intervention, risk assessment and management, crisis management and program development. These services may be provided to a range of individuals across both the acute admissions units as well as with the large population of NGRI acquittees at ESH.

Research:

• The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in public policy and systemic intervention research associated with the larger system of care in Virginia and the increasing number of inpatient admissions from jails within the region.
