In Vietnam, Rent-A-Port and IPEM are operating and investing under the umbrella of the specialized company ‘Infra-Asia Ltd’.
The petrochemical jetty port system (built by IPEM, Rent-A-Port and Petro-Vietnam together)was host to more than 1.000 ships and barges and became the recognized petrochemical transportationhub of the Northern provinces in Vietnam. 12
13
The liquid jetty and the tank farms of the deep sea port of Dinh Vu (Hai Phong) in Vietnam, have been designed, nanced and supervised by Rent-A-Port in 1999 and are now an extremely successful port facility. Ipem and Rent-A-port are now successfully implementing various other projects of Industrial Zones and Deep Sea Ports in Vietnam starting from the experience and the local knowhow built up in Dinh Vu (Haiphong).
In more detail …Rent-A-Port and IPEM are co-investors and managers of the Dinh Vu Industrial Zone (DVIZ),
developing a low-lying land area of over 1.000 hectares into a modern industrial park and
deep-sea port in Hai Phong, Northern Vietnam.
At present more than 20 companies are operating in the DVIZ. They represent sectors such as
petrochemicals, liquid gasses, steel-making and animal feeds.
This project brings together port facilities, continuously improved utilities, infrastructural works
and a one-stop e cient management system.
Dinh Vu Deep Sea Port began operations on the 9th of May 2005 with the inauguration of the
 rst berth for general cargo.
Since then 1.6 million tonnes of cargo have been handled. Construction of the second and
third berths are upcoming.
A major upgrading program for the deepening and widening of the access channel to the
Haiphong Port system has been completed, allowing vessels up to 30.000 DWT to sail into the
Dinh Vu port System. Substantial investments were made to develop general utilities focused
on water, electricity and telecommunications.
In order to satisfy the petrochemical clients’ demands, it was decided to increase the jetty
capacity by a second 20.000 DWT jetty, with su cient capacity to serve the entire petrochemical
zone. This second liquid jetty is now under construction and will be completed in 2009.

The knowhow of Rent-A-Port combines port expertise with quarry- and mining expertise.
References with respect to quarries are found further.
Mining Plan of quarry Oman and India
Antwerp Stone Terminal is located on the left bank of the Port of Antwerp.
The unloading facility of aggregates forms part of a ‘pseudo quarry’ concept.
The raw materials are extracted from quarries in Norway and Scotland (one
of the world’s largest operational quarries) and transported with large self-
discharging vessels to the Antwerp Stone Terminal, where the aggregates
are produced according to European Standards for concrete and road
applications. The nished product is transported to di erent building sites by
road, rail and sea.
The exploitation surface of the terminal is about 10HA with a storage capacity
of 500.000 tons. The automated discharge installation of the vessels is designed
to guarantee a throughput of 6.000 tons/hour, for granules not bigger than
20mm. In total the investment is in excess of 7 million Euros.
The stacker is built on a drained and stabilized platform, with metal piles up to
20 meters deep. The unloaded material rst drops in a bu er hopper of 40m3
and is then transported with a rst conveyor belt to the distribution box. A
second conveyor perpendicular to the rst one transports the material to the
stock. A crushing and sieving plant turns the raw materials into the right size
of aggregates.
Antwerp Stone Terminal
21
The Africa terminal is located at Kirchenpauerkai in Hamburg, Germany. The unloading
installation has a capacity of 2400 tons per hour and consists of a receiving hopper and a
belt conveyor for storage of aggregates, with a stock capacity of approx. 40.000 tons.
Bulk carriers or dredgers moored alongside the quay and equipped with a self-unloading
installation discharge the materials in the receiving hopper. The reclaiming belt conveyor
takes over the materials below the hopper and throws them back about 50m further at a
height of 20m.
During unloading, the whole equipment hopper and conveyor can be moved
alongside the quay in such a way that the stock can be extended.

25
The gravel unloading installation is located in the Industrial Zone in the West-Port
of Flushing (the Netherlands). The equipment consists of a receiving hopper and belt
conveyors for storage of aggregates, and has a capacity of 2 400 tons per hour. The bulk
carriers or the hopper-dredgers with selfunloading equipment are moored alongside
two large mooring piles equipped with fenders. On these piles, vertical fenders allow
the ships to move up and down with the tidal variation. Between these piles, a catwalk
equipped with a removable platform permits access to the deck of the ship.
The rst part of the unloading installation (receiving hopper and the rst part of a
collecting belt conveyor) is built o -shore on piles. The second part of the belt conveyor
is built on-shore on pylons. This conveyor feeds a movable belt conveyor installed on
strong steel supports at a height of 25m above the stock piling area which has a capacity
of 100.000 tons.
All materials are treated in a washing, crushing and screening plant and serve the concrete
or the chemical industry. Supply of the end-products for the concrete industry is done by
inland waterways.
The fully automated loading installation of which the capacity rises to 800 tons per hour
consists of three hoppers and a loading belt conveyor. The hoppers are fed with the
di erent end-products. As such the blending of products is possible and di erent size
ranges of sand and aggregates are sold depending on the customer’s wishes.
The loading belt is movable and the top end above the ships can rise or lower in function
of the tides. This loading band is partially built on piles (o -shore) and partially on pylons
(on-shore).

This white cement terminal is situated nearby Marseille in France.
Cement vessels are unloaded via cranes or a Kovako vacuum un-
loading system which brings the product to cement storage tanks
of 6.000 m3 each. This type of storage is a unique system which has
already proven its e ciency and cost advantages.
A fully automated unloading system brings the product out of the tank
and via a screw and elevator system the loading silos are lled. Bulk
trucks are loaded and weighted automatically. Currently the terminal
is expanding and a complete new storage facility of several storage
tanks equipped with reclaiming installations is under construction.
This terminal has been designed and commissioned by
Rent-A-Port’s strategic partner, the company Sea-Tech.
This innovative storage system is approximately 40% more economical than classical silos and it o ers huge savings in terms of construction time.

This mineral terminal is situated near Marseille, in France. The terminal is equipped to handle coal, bauxite, clinker, coke, ... and can handle Panamax vessels. A complete network of handling equipment up to 3.000 tons per hour is designed and operated by Sea-Tech, Rent-A-Port’s strategic partner.
Continuous unloading installation for coal.
29
Port of Sete - Cement terminal
This Cement Terminal is situated in the Port of Sete, near Marseille in France, and is designed and operated
by Sea-Tech, Rent-A-Port’s strategic partner.
The terminal consists of a dedicated quay for the unloading of cement with an annual throughput of
more than 300.000 tons per year. Weekly several ships up to 5.000 tons are unloaded via a fully automated
and dust free unloading system.
A movable Siwertell-system of screws brings the product out of the vessel into a pressure vessel that
pushes the product to the unique and cost e cient storage area via a pneumatic transportation system.
The product is stored in a warehouse via several access channels. For loading a fully automated scraping
installation brings the product to a conveyor belt system that feeds the loading hoppers. Several bulk
trucks are loaded per hour, in a environmentally friendly condition.

The raw materials are treated in a primary crusher where a selection of blocks and a rst crushing
operation is done. Via the washing installation, where the material is washed in clear water in two
large rotating cylinders, the products are fed into the second crusher to reduce the particle-size dis-
tribution of the pre-ground product (primary output).
Dependent on its quality the product is then routed to either
Physical processing for the production and direct shipment to construction and public work
customers of any combination of nished product made from 12 core products produced and
stocked in 1.000 ton silos. Its capacity is 800 tons per hour. The loading is automated over three
lines and the variety of possible products is unlimited up to a maximum size of 90 mm
Chemical processing, where the sorting and particle size reduction facility (800 tons per hour) is
used to produce limestone, chemically selected gravel and ux stone (sand for metallurgy) and
allows loading from a hopper.
Transport logistics are diversi ed and customized according to volume and deadline demands and
is performed by dump trucks, tank trucks and platforms, full tonnage trains, river barges and cargo
ships. The quarry is able to load up to 40.000 tons of material per day.
Rent-A-Port is a partner and operator in this huge quarry. This 200 hectares
aggregates concession is located on the mountainous Musandam Peninsula, as
part of Ghassah Bay in the northern part of Oman.
The quarry is one of the biggest in the Middle-East, with reserves in excess of
500 million tons. Exploration started a few years ago. By the drilling and blasting,
raw materials are produced and the big rocks are sorted by size and weight.
With dumpers armour rock is transported to the oating jetty and loaded onto
pontoons. These rocks go to various breakwater projects and arti cial islands in
the Middle-East.
A crushing plant with a capacity of 2.600 tons per hour is currently being installed.
This installation breaks the rock into aggregates. A 350m long conveyor belt with
a capacity of 2.500 ton per hour then transports the products into the ships. The
limestone of the quarry is of high quality and purity.
