Who is the CRFA
Founded in 1984, the Canadian Renewable Fuels
Association (CRFA) is a non-profit organization with a
mission to promote renewable fuels for transportation
through consumer awareness and government liaison
activities.
The CRFA membership is comprised of representatives from
all levels of the ethanol and biodiesel industry, including:
grain and cellulose ethanol producers, biodiesel producers,
fuel technology providers and agricultural associations.

The Case for Renewable Fuels
Fossil fuels becoming increasingly difficult and
expensive to extract
Increasing energy consumption worldwide due to:
• Growing populations• Economic growth in emerging nations
Demand for energy security and independence

Government Commitment on Renewable Fuels
“Require 5% average renewable content in Canadian
gasoline and diesel fuel, such as ethanol and
biodiesel, by end of 2010.”

Why renewable fuels are here to stay
Government support on both the policy and
financial fronts
Shift in auto industry toward “Flex fuel” vehicles
that can run on up to 85% ethanol.

Why renewable fuels are here to stay
Ethanol & biodiesel greatly reduce greenhouse
gas emissions as compared with oil.
(Equivalent to a million fewer cars on the
road.)
Ethanol & biodiesel offer superior energy
balance now, and the potential for even better
performance down the road.
2. The Environment Story

This is only the beginning
• A bio-revolution is underway: it will change the way we think, the choices we make and the type of economy we have.
• Further benefits will accrue and further markets will open to rural communities, farmers and farm families.
• Renewable fuels won’t supplant oil in our lifetimes, but their influence and their share of the market will grow each year.

Canada: A renewable fuels leader• Renewable fuels are a commercial reality NOW.
• Supporting renewable fuels research and production today ensures Canada a leadership role in the critical clean-energy sector of tomorrow.
• Good jobs for communities that need them.
• A “good news” story for rural communities and the agriculture industry.
page 12
The future begins now
• The price of oil will fluctuate but the reality of oil
never will – it is a energy source of limited lifespan.
• Renewable fuels represent a cleaner, more efficient
and renewable alternative.
