It is the LAST Month to Enroll, or Re-Enroll in 4-H! 4-H Online enrollment needs completed every year!

Until members and volunteers re-enroll in the new 4-H year, they are NOT covered by the Iowa 4-H liability insurance policy and will likely not

receive correspondence regarding important events like workshops, livestock weigh-ins, or other deadlines critical to your 4-H participation. The

deadline is MAY 15th, so get yourself and your friends re-enrolled today!

There is no cost to enroll in Fremont County 4-H! Enrollment costs are covered by the 4-H food stand income. In

return, it is your responsibility to work a food stand shift at the Fremont County Fair. Visit www.4honline.com to enroll!

If you need help, or access to the internet, we are here for you!

Contact the Fremont County Extension Office at (712) 374-2351 or [email protected].

Fremont County Youth Committee Fair Updates!

Youth Committee Presents a New Theme for Static Judging this Year! Don’t worry – you can still bring whatever you want to fair! But, if you want to participate in the fun – join in! This year, in an effort to increase

static projects brought to the fair, the Youth Committee has decided on a theme - Go Hog-Wild! Bring a project in any project area that relates

to swine to contribute to the theme! Projects that correspond with this theme will receive special recognition. Bring a pig-decorated cake, use

pig fabric on your sewing project, paint a ceramic pig, make a welded pig, the possibilities are endless! Can’t wait to see everyone go hog-wild!

Innovative award The Fremont County Youth Committee is introducing the The Lean, Mean & Green Award! This recognizes a 4-H static project that is creative,

innovative, or comprised of outstanding engineering, and promotes reduction in the use of resources, repurposing of common materials, or

other measures considered environmentally responsible. Winner(s) will be determined by the static judges. You do not need to enter into a

special class at the fair to be eligible for this award.

While you have some extra time at home…

Work on your 4-H Goals! Get on top of those Record Books this year by starting your goals now

(Instead of trying to think of what your goal was at the beginning of

the year)! Focusing on project areas and goals throughout the year

allows more time for youth to Do, Reflect, & Apply. Your club might

have folders for you to work on these forms throughout the year but if

you would like your own papers for home go to:

https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/record-keeping. On that page

you will find all of the forms that go into your Record Book after Fair.

Get ahead of the game now and start writing down your goals, and

keep them handy to write down activities you have participated in

throughout the year!

Things to be thinking about & writing down throughout the year:

Yearly 4-H Summary: Keep track of your 4-H and non-4-H civic

engagement activities (community service), presentations, volunteer

work, school honors and activities, and work experiences throughout

the year.

Livestock/Pet Project Worksheets: health records, feed costs, vet

costs, general costs, goals, etc.

Goal Writing Worksheet: gives you some ideas and can help you with

your goal writing.

Fremont County STEM Project Forms: (found only on Fremont County

website: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/fremont/) what were my

problems/needs/questions, what was my goal, citizenship/community

service experiences throughout the year related to this project, make

sure to track all steps, and take pictures!

FairEntry is where you enter all of the projects you are or

might be bringing to the fair! Don’t forget to enter your

animal classes! Visit our website to find more

information about the Fremont County Fair! https://www.extension.iastate.edu/fremont/

Check out these opportunities!

4-H Youth in Action Award Deadline Extended Application deadline for the National 4-H Youth in Action Award has been delayed to May 18, 2020 to allow 4-H leaders and youth more time to promote and complete the application. 4-H youth can complete for a $5,000 scholarship and a trip to Washington, D.C.

4-H Club Highlight Opportunity Available The state office is looking to feature different 4-H clubs across Iowa on our Iowa 4-H social media platforms. They want to see the great things clubs have done and hear what makes each one unique. Leaders, complete this simple JotForm to nominate your club for recognition. It includes an option to upload 1-4 photos of the club in action. Questions? Contact Lexa Krause.

Frequently Asked Fair Questions!

Fremont County has a rule where each 4-H and Clover Kid member has to

attend 2 regularly scheduled club meetings, does that count this year?

NO! The Fremont County Youth Committee decided to dismiss this rule

for this year (2019-2020 4-H year).

We didn’t have pullorum testing at last year’s fair for poultry, is it happening

this year?

NO! There is still a statewide shortage of the serum used in the testing,

so pullorum testing will NOT be done for this year’s fair.

Are we going to have the Fremont County Fair this year???

The Fremont County Fair Association, along with Extension Staff, are

looking at virtual options for the fair IF we cannot have a face-to-face

fair. There will still be a chance to show your animals and static exhibits

– it MIGHT just look a little different this year. BUT, no decisions have

been made so far!

COVID-19 Cancelations To-Date As Extension Staff – We Serve Iowans! We hate that we have to cancel our events, but to keep our families and our communities safe, we are following the

guidelines from officials in the Iowa State 4-H Office. The state office has directed us to cancel or postpone all face-to-face meetings and activities until May

9. That date might change depending on how the situation escalates. Our office staff is working remotely. Please contact us with any questions you may

have or if you are looking for resources. You can find our contact info on our website! https://www.extension.iastate.edu/fremont/

The following activities have been/are canceled: 4-H Grand Carnival - March 28, Swine Weigh-In - March 28, Sheep and Goat Weigh-In - April 15, Penguins

and Pajamas - May 8, Horse Camp - June 5-7 (see article on pg. 13 – changed to Day Camp), Camp Wild - June 4-6 (Camp Wild canceled because that specific

campground decided to cancel events for the summer, not ISU direction) Intermediate Trip June 10-12

We are staying optimistic that we can still offer our summer programing starting in June including our Annual Waubonsie Horse Camp, our K-3 Day Camps,

and the Fremont County Fair in July.
