The children in Key Stage 2 have taken part in a variety of events during the week to mark the Centenary year off WW1.

They thought about what it was like to be a child in WW1 and investigated the games they would have played.

They made comparisons between life in the past and life today.

Through drama the children thought about life in the trenches. They read letters written from soldiers and thought about why

the soldiers weren’t always totally truthful about what they wrote home!

The children were taught some of the songs from WW1. They performed ‘Pack up you troubles’ and ‘It’s a long way to

Tipperary’.

The children thought about what worries the soldiers would have had during their time at war.

The children looked at how Stonesfield was directly affected by WW1.

They found out the names of local people who were directly involved in the war.

A candle was lit for each of the soldiers who did not return after the war.

The children created their own Poppy installation inspired by the poppies displayed at The Tower of London.

They made 126 poppies to represent every child at Stonesfield School.

Mrs Searle spoke to the children about the privilege of being chosen to plant the ceramic poppies at The Tower of London.

The children learnt that 888,246 poppies were planted, each representing a member of the British military that lost their life during WW1.

Every child in school was given a poppy to plant in the school grounds as a mark of respect and remembrance.
